For the time being if you are interested in this model search for ebay seller turbinemongoose, in about a week he should have his own website which will be called jetstreamcollectibles.com. His name is Tony and he is a good guy. He is trying to specialize in really large models at an affordable price... I can't speak to much for accuracy, but they are solidly built, heavy and huge. He will have the Ares, Redstone, Titan and several versions of the Saturn V initially with more in the works. I am expecting more today or tomorrow so I will post pics as I get them. Tell him the Mercury7 Science Center sent you. We are completely unaffiliated with him except he supports the science center. Scott

I know it's a pet peeve of mine, but if someone is going to build museum quality models, please tell them to get the correct paint pattern on the Saturn V. Only 500-F was painted that way and it wasn't a flight article.

Well luckily my audience would never notice that, however I love detail, too. But it really is a very nice model. I am in awe because of the size.

It looks like the Saturn and Ares models are the same scale - is that so?

Do you know if he'll make the entire series of models Redstone through Ares the same scale and if it might be 1/144 also?

All the best to his son, that he gets well soon.

I can not speak for him, however since the Gemini and the Redstone are almost the same height as the Ares I would say he is just going for big. I have thought about this and was wanting to obtain some small man or animal figures to place on the base of each to give a sense of scale for the children, or maybe I can come up with a graphic to put behind the model in the same scale.

None of the models appear to be in scale with each other. Even the two Ares seem to be out of scale with each other (at least based on the current plans for each). Thus I believe you are correct when you say he is "just going for big."

I am not sure of the scale between the Ares 1 and V. I can say that I have not pushed the Ares 1 all the way down on its stalk yet so in actuality it is approx 3 inches shorter, which would be 30 ft? Assuming this is 1/100 scale or so, sorry, I am not as up on it as I should be.

The Ares I & V are done in 1/120 scale:

Ares I = 32 1/2"
Ares V = 36"

I stand corrected. The positioning of the Ares I on its peg in the pictures above gave the appearance that it was out of scale.

The latest specs I have noted for Ares I and Ares V have the earlier standing 320.7' and the latter 363' (same height as the Saturn V). As NightHawk117 pointed out, that's roughly 1:120 scale for each.

This information about scale is so helpful. Is there anyone among us who could take this great info and create a chart with the Gemini-Titan, Mercury-Atlas, and Mercury-Redstone to show their relative height, too? It would finish the mental picture for me. Thanks, guys- Rob

There are a few commercially-produced charts that provide a size comparison between the rockets (though none of them as of yet include Ares):

Hi Rob, go to eBay and look for eBay seller turbinemongoose and send him a private message there. I was told that is the way he preferred to be contacted for now. Scott

Too bad the paint scheme is wrong. It detracts from the model quite a bit.

Does anybody know if there is any technical reason for a paint scheme or are we just talking aesthetics here. Is there thermal reasons that some parts of the Saturn V is black? If there is no reason, won't be cheaper NOT to have a paint scheme and just go with an all white vehicle.

Cliff, you'll get more detailed responses but the reason for the paint scheme is to assist in long range photography during launch. You'll notice specific patterns in the black paint. It's not just aesthetics.

I would just like to chime in on this post by saying that the quality of the Ares 1 & 5 are tremendous values. I just purchased and am awaiting delivery on a Delta 2 rocket. Tony is just splendid to deal with and deserves to be considered for your business. I do not know Tony except for my dealings with him and he is a joy to deal with and his models are tremendous values! I am one customer that is extremely satisfied and will buy more from Tony! I now have the 1/100 Saturn V and 1/72 Saturn 1B each signed by at least one person from each mission that flew them... and the 1/32 Gemini Titan signed by crew of GT-12. The models are not absolutely perfect as far as accuracy, however they are pretty darned close and the quality is excellent. And like Don Brady, Tony treated me great. I'm very happy.

Does anyone happen to have Tony's direct e-mail? I'd like to contact him regarding the Gemini-Titan rocket that he has done for a few cSers. Saw Rob S's at the UACC show and have been interested in getting one since. Unfortunately, the model is not listed on his website.

Thanks,

Rob

Hi R-Rob:

I e-mailed Tony directly. I have lost my home data base of sent e-mails, but I believe his e-mail started with "enforcer" or something similar... Why don't you try to ask him a question about an existing item for sale on eBay and then ask him the other questions when he repomnds? Just an idea.

Also, Nighthawk, forgive me as I never saw the question above that you posted to me in July until today. I got the Gemini and I-B models directly through Tony via e-mail. He has never listed either on eBay. I have no idea why not, because I imagine they sure would sell.

Good luck, guys!

Rob-

I'll give the ebay account a try. Really liked the Gemini-Titan you had at the show in Florida. How many astros did you finally get to sign it?

Thanks for the help!

Hi Rob:

I intended to get a Gemini crew completion. At KSC, I hoped to get the Gemini 12 crew to sign the Titan, but stopped with Lovell after I learned that Buzz wanted $300 to sign it.

Lovell signed it with "Gemini 7" and "Gemini 12," so I still have a reasonable chance to get a crew completion from Borman in the future, and I seriously doubt Borman would charge $300.

Nighthawk, regarding the large Titan and Sat 1-B, I know what you mean...I also got the impression that Tony seems reluctant to part with them. Perhaps there are quantity issues. He sure sells them when he wants to, so maybe he'll restock and resume selling. Keep trying.

I'm interested in purchasing the Ares I & V model set from Jetstream Collectibles but have not seen it recently on their website. I tried to contact Tony but have not heard back from him yet. Does anyone know if this model is still available?
