Edward White's Astronaut Lapel Pin

0277. Gold Astronaut Lapel Pin

Returned to his Edward White's family after the Apollo 1 fire. This is more than just a gold lapel pin. It is the symbol of a right of passage. When as person is selected to become an astronaut, he is given a silver lapel pin . Only after an astronaut completes a mission, is he given a gold lapel pin. This was usually presented at a special "Pin Party" where, amid fun and games, the novice astronaut was accepted into the company of those who have completed what others only dream and train for. To our knowledge, this is the first astronaut lapel pin ever to be offered for sale. From a Group 2 astronaut and the first American to make a spacewalk, it is a unique opportunity. the Ed White II Estate collection
