For those of you who haven't read or ordered Rich Jurek's book yet, it makes for a great Christmas/holiday present for yourself or someone. Rich covers the length of this remarkable man's life and career that makes for a fascinating and compelling read. His gift for a novelist's word craft lets the reader fly through a dramatic life. He bestows tidbits of humor that you find yourself stifling a giggle like the excessive cost of Frank Borman's helmet due to his large head. Apollo 15 flown cover scandal — for those collectors and fans of these, Al Worden's book lay the groundwork of the story, Rich fills in hitherto unknown details of this career killer and George Low's efforts to soften the outcome of the "shenanigans." For reasons having nothing to do with the book it took me a while to finally read but, my goodness Rich, you’ve created a wonderful and meticulously-researched account about an amazing individual.Low’s knowledgeable, thoughtful, and involved style serves as a worthy model for today’s engineers, managers, and political leaders. In hindsight I was amused how many of Low’s 10 management principles from the Epilogue were instrumental in the (far more modest!) successes enjoyed in my own engineering and management career. It’s a shame the world lost such a practical and visionary technology advocate so early. The U.S. could use a few more George Lows these days. Great read. |

A very kind and generous review of "The Ultimate Engineer" by Ted Spitzmiller for the National Space Society. We have been fortunate to have had many outstanding individuals move through the space program over the years — being key players in the numerous manned and unmanned systems. George M. Low was one that I was aware of (based on some of his specific actions), such as the Apollo 8 decision. But without an in-depth biography, many of us don't know the true significance of an individual. This book by author Richard Jurek provides an excellent survey of Low’s life work and is filled with quotes that bring the personal perspective... |

Another kind review of The Ultimate Engineer by Emily Carney and Dwayne Day on The Space Review: Jurek has written a book focused on Low that gives him his due... The Ultimate Engineer deftly illuminates Low's untold story... |

I second the high praise for this book. The only downside to Mr. Low's life I could see was the way his career became the most important part of his life, more important than family or relationships. But this was a symptom (?) of many Apollo careers. Well done Richard Jurek. |
