To add to the already deservedly effusive reviews of this fine work, here is this week's review from the National Space Society. It mentions the "magic moments" within, and the fact that the "sharp edges" in the original were left intact. This is, as we all know, a rarity is such books. It's a truly one-of-a-kind work. |

It's literally been at least a decade since I last posted, but I just finished Apollo Pilot, Donn Eisele's memoirs as edited by Francis French. I have to say I couldn't put it down, and despite its brevity it fills an important gap in the history of the program. I am also left with admiration with the way Francis approached and edited the book. To me, it read sometimes like Eisele never expected his words to see the light of day, perhaps fueling his extreme candor, especially in the early chapters. I've had some experience with literary reclamation projects, and they can be tricky, but kudos and thanks for the great editing and a fascinating, unplugged read. |
