I am not involved in this Kickstarter, but felt it might interest some here. A stunning coffee table book that encapsulates the photographs by some of history’s most iconic photographers — the Apollo astronauts. |

Regarding this book, I was wondering how it would differ from two recently published books about Apollo photography, namely "Apollo: The Panoramas" and "Moonshots & Snapshots of Project Apollo," so I asked the person behind this project and here is his reply: Good question! How I see this book differing from other Apollo related publications (including the two books you mention, which I have been lucky to get my hands on over the past months) is that our book pays homage the guys who took these iconic photographs. These images are so ingrained in visual culture that you quite often forget the human element to the story. That these images were taken by someone who really had to consider the shot, shooting film in which he didn't know if the image was under/over exposed etc (Also using a Hasselblad camera isn't the easiest to operate on earth, let alone on the moon!) Our book aims to highlight the fact that the astronauts created some of the most significant images to ever be created by mankind. So given that insight, the selection of images will be curated on artistic merit (and not just a book that regurgitates the same old "money shots"). Basically, we want to create a book which really honours and celebrates the Apollo astronauts as the great image makers that they were. We are not claiming to make the definitive book on the Apollo missions, but to produce a beautifully crafted and considered book. Investing in the finish to make sure these images really shine. Something a major publishing house couldn't afford to do due it having much larger overheads and profit margins to maintain. We have built up a team with a great range of expertise to offer something quite special design and production wise. I hope that elaborates on our goal a little further! Thanks again for the support! |

This is the creators of the Apollo VII–XVII project here. Nice to see us featured here on this forum! We think the beauty of crowdfunding lies in the fact everyone can contribute to the project. Therefore we are very curious what you guys think of our book and are open for suggestions, comments or any form of contribution. Since the launch of the campaign we've received numerous interesting comments to further develop this book. Some of the things we've looked into and are now adding to our book are the lunar photography map for the Apollo 11 landing site and the Fallen Astronaut photograph taken by David R. Scott during Apollo 15. We believe additions like these can really make this book into something special which also makes it even more unique. What do you guys think and what is absolutely indispensable for this book? Thanks! |

Sorry, in my opinion, for that price there are better publications available! |

All I can say is variety is the spice of life. In my 45+ years of following the space program, I have seen many books try and fail to present photos as just more than technical documentation of lunar exploration. If this book can print the effort and comments by the astronauts behind the photos, all to the better. And if it can describe the process taken by ground support personnel in choosing, adapting and designing the cameras and procedures for taking the photos, that would be a plus too. I know the recent book on Apollo surface panoramas was given rave reviews, so I think we should wait and see the results of the final product. |

Update via Kickstarter: We're pretty excited to tell you that we'll be visiting the printer tomorrow, where we'll see the first pages to come off the press. To share our excitement we thought it would be nice to show you a visualisation of the belly band cover and some of the final spreads of the book.

Will this book be made available to people who did not participate in the Kickstarter? I missed my opportunity there. |
