I saw a blurb that Alan Bean's "Reaching for the Stars" limited edition canvas is on sale this weekend from the Greenwich Workshop. It is 25% off of list. Fair enough. The print on the webpage indicates that 24 people have signed it. Okay.Scrolling down the webpage they show pictures of all of the astronauts signing the piece. They include a portrait of Gene Cernan, with an inset of Buzz Aldrin signing it, but then they show Gene Cernan's signature on the print right above Apollo 17. When I bought my copy, Gene Cernan was not on the print. I guess he added his signature at some point? While not the most attractive piece, I think while Buzz Aldrin is now charging $600 to sign something it is becoming a sleeper piece. |

Odd point — on the Greenwich website the small image of the entire print does NOT show Capt. Cernan's signature, and in the list of signers he is included with a shot of him signing the piece!Further, there's no mention of Gen. Stafford, who did sign and whose signature is seen in the print image. Could be a problem for the gallery, presumably someone not familiar with the astronauts. I just sent a brief note to them. A lot of collectors have had signatures added to their Reaching for the Stars, just personal preference. |

For fun I went back to the link for this sale. The sale is over, but the image of Gene Cernan and his signature on the print have vanished too... interesting. |

They simply corrected the listing (originally derived from the Reaching for the Stars in their office, according to their email reply, which had apparently had Cernan's autograph added at a later date — and I guess they had overlooked Gen. Stafford). | |
