Bring it on!

Rick why has it taken so long? You should have asked Geno when you had the chance.

The DVD release will follow a theatrical release. Last month, the filmmakers noted:
We're just finalising the details of our cinema release. Please stay tuned for any further information.

For the record, I am not privy to the film or its makers but I did spend some time with these guys in Sheffield last year and information gleaned at the time, coupled with the odd snippet since led me to that time frame.
Post a theatrical release was the intention as per Robert's comment.

From the Adler Planetarium in Chicago:
Celebrate the anniversary of humanity's final steps on the Moon with an exclusive screening of the documentary, The Last Man on the Moon. The film, which chronicles the lives of the astronauts who flew NASA's last lunar mission, Apollo 17, will not be released to the general public until 2016. This is your exclusive chance to see the film before it is released nationwide.
Guests will have an opportunity to view the film during regular museum hours on Saturday, December 12, and Saturday, December 19, in our Johnson Family Star Theater. On Sunday, December 13, ticket-holders will enjoy an exclusive, after-hours screening alongside special guests Captain Eugene Cernan and Captain James A. Lovell Jr., who will participate in a brief panel discussion after the completion of the film.

I missed out on the panel event, but am in for the screening on the 12th. I've been waiting for over a year to see it! SO happy it's finally being screened locally!!
Of course, if anyone has an extra panel ticket, I'd be more than happy to buy it off of you! I tried pulling my Adler membership strings, but that got me nowhere.

Mark Stewart Productions release
Gravitas Ventures and Mark Stewart Productions to Distribute 'The Last Man on the Moon'
Documentary Chronicling Astronaut Eugene "Gene" Cernan to Land February 2016
On this day forty-three years ago, Apollo 17 Commander Eugene "Gene" Cernan landed the Lunar Module Challenger on the moon. Marking this anniversary, Mark Stewart Productions announces that its documentary "The Last Man on the Moon," which tells Cernan's extraordinary story in his own words, will touch down in U.S. theaters and across digital platforms on Feb. 26, 2016.
Gravitas Ventures will handle the digital and Video on Demand (VOD) release of the film on the same day it hits theaters. Additionally, two premieres will take place in Washington D.C. and Houston in the days leading up to the release of the film. Previously, the documentary made its U.S. debut at the 2015 SXSW film festival.
"This film is the story of a boy from 'Any Town USA' who grew up in a family of modest means and with a seemingly impossible dream to fly," said Gene Cernan about the release. "As fate would have it I lived that dream, becoming a Naval Aviator, which in turn gave me the opportunity to call the moon my home. I do hope people will enjoy the film, but far more important to me is my desire to inspire the passion in the hearts and minds of future generations of young men and women to see their own impossible dreams become a reality."
Director and Co-Producer Mark Craig had this to say: "It's been a privilege to work with such a charismatic and historical figure as Gene Cernan. Many films have been made about space and going to the moon, and so I knew we would have to venture both deeper and bigger than ever before — both in human terms and as creative documentary for the big screen. I'm very proud of what we've done with the film, and hope that audiences will be both gripped and moved by his epic story."
Executive Producer and distributor Mark Stewart added: "It's forty-three years ago that Gene Cernan stepped onto the surface of the moon – and it's tough to think of a present-day American hero who can match up to him. Gene grew up in exceptional times – and exceptional times produce exceptional men, but real life is never that simple. This film is Gene's story – and we hope that it will inspire people as much as it inspired us. We are delighted to be working with Gravitas Ventures as we reach out to audiences at home and around the world."
"'The Last Man on the Moon' is a thrilling testimony of Gene Cernan's life and its immeasurable impact on the nation and those around him," said Gravitas Ventures Founder and CEO Nolan Gallagher. "Director Mark Craig has delivered a riveting documentary that will enthrall the adventurer and leader within all of us."
"The Last Man on the Moon" is powered by the same adrenalin, drama and raw emotions experienced by former NASA astronaut and Navy Captain Eugene "Gene" Cernan. When Cernan became the last man to step off of the surface of the moon in December 1972, he left his footprints and his daughter's initials in the lunar dust. Only now is he ready to share his epic and deeply personal story of fulfillment, love and loss.
Five years in the making, the documentary unveils a wealth of rare archival footage and takes Cernan back to the launch pad at Cape Kennedy (now NASA Kennedy Space Center), to the Arlington National Cemetery, and to his Texas ranch where he tries to find respite from a past that refuses to let him go. The film features exclusive interviews with former astronauts, such as Apollo 12 crew-members Alan Bean and Dick Gordon and Apollo 13 Commander Jim Lovell, as well as NASA Flight Director Gene Kranz and Director of Flight Operations Chris Kraft.
"The Last Man on the Moon" is directed by Mark Craig, executive produced by Mark Stewart, produced by Gareth Dodds and Patrick Mark, co-produced by Mark Craig and Sara Giles, with original music by Lorne Balfe, cinematography by Tim Cragg, and editing by David Fairhead and Dan Haythorn. For more information, go to Facebook and Twitter.
The deal for digital rights was negotiated by Dan Braun from Submarine Entertainment, and Nolan Gallagher from Gravitas Ventures.

At the Adler Planetarium screening in Chicago this past Sunday the producer Mark Stewart stated the project will be coming out on DVD and Blu-ray next year.
I thought it was one of the best documentaries I have seen on the space program. Captain Cernan and his family along with Captain Lovell screened the film from the front row and the two did a brief panel discussion afterwards. When the two were introduced and getting seated for the talk Gene called Jim "Tom" as in Hanks he said. Gene also told the audience how much he enjoyed coming home to Chicago and showing his family where he was born, his old house, and other areas of familial interest. Gene said Jim was taking over his town what with the restaurants, offices, and such. It was extra special to watch this film and know that the man who was featured in it was sitting in the same auditorium as you were!

So when are we getting the promised extra UK screenings? I realise it's hard to better the metropolises of Sheffield, Wakefield and Hull(!), but I won't be buying the DVD without seeing it on the screen first.

What a lovely Gene Cernan interview. He comes over as a wonderfully charismatic and humble last man. Can't wait to meet him again in Pontefract, and to see his film too. His host was enthusiastic as well.

The last few days were great. Being down in New York City with the movie team in TriBeCa for the movie's NYC premiere was wonderful. As a co-executive producer of the film it was good to see Gene out there talking to the media about the film.
To answer some questions, the director and producers want you to go see the movie in theaters. They are expanding the showings in the U.S. There will be more in the UK also. Give them time. Watch "The Last Man on the Moon" website for more movie showings.
The movie poster is in its third version. Hopefully, this is the final edition.
As you can see, Fox really supports the film.
Now on to DC, Houston, Dallas and San Francisco.

Any chance that the DVD might have the longer version (the "Director's Cut"?) that was shown at Spacefest 6?
Would love to see it in a theater - if it makes it to Honolulu. Sadly, doubtful — but I would love to be wrong. Geno's welcome to crash at my place. You too, Larry!

Any word on distribution to overseas military installations in the near future?
As the new documentary "The Last Man on the Moon" opens, the camera pans across a crowd at a rodeo until it finds an older gentleman taking his seat.
The man, clad in a cowboy hat, padded vest and dark blue jeans with a large-buckle belt, doesn't stand out from those around him. Nothing about his appearance suggests he is a member of one of the most exclusive fraternities in all of human history.
In fact, as that scene was shot, only one person, out of the thousands surrounding him, recognized Gene Cernan.
"Just one — the man sitting next to him," said Mark Craig, director of "The Last Man on the Moon," which is opening in select U.S. theaters on Friday (Feb. 26).

Astronauts took the place of movie stars walking the red carpet on Thursday night (Feb. 25) at the Houston premiere of "The Last Man on the Moon."
About a dozen men and women who have flown in space came out to Sundance Cinemas to see the new film, which chronicles the life of Apollo 17 moonwalker Gene Cernan.
"I don't think you get this type of turnout anywhere but here in Houston," said Tony Antonelli, a former two-time NASA space shuttle pilot who now works for Lockheed Martin.

I don't know if it will be the same cut, but the DVD (and Blu-ray) will include 23 minutes of additional footage that didn't make it into the theatrical release.
