Apparently, Harris has written his bio, "Dream Walker." He was signing copies today (Sept. 16) at the Congressional Black Caucus in Washington, DC. Dream Walker: A Journey of Achievement and Inspiration by Bernard Harris A role model for today’s inner-city youth, Dr. Harris is a medical doctor trained at the Mayo Clinic; a pilot and flight surgeon; a former NASA scientist and astronaut; the founder and managing director of a successful venture capital firm; and the founder and president of the Harris Foundation, an organization dedicated to minority empowerment. In each chapter, he shares bits of wisdom and stories from his fascinating life that will inspire readers of all ages to take steps toward achieving their dreams. Mickey Herskowitz is one of America’s most popular writers and has coauthored books with Dan Rather, Mickey Mantle, George W. Bush, and many others. He has captured Dr. Harris’s story in his signature, reader-friendly style. |

No problem. I was kinda surprised, as I had seen Dr. Harris about two months ago and he didn't mention it when we were talking. I'll have to add it to my "spend a nice afternoon to go and find it and read at the bookstore" list. |

Jeff Foust reviews "Dream Walker" for The Space Review... One of the ironies of Dream Walker is that while Harris goes into great detail talking about the efforts he took to realize his childhood dream of becoming an astronaut, there's far less about his career as an astronaut. What's provided are primarily a handful of anecdotes from his training and the two missions, such as the experience of being on Columbia for his first mission when its launch was aborted after main engine ignition. But there's surprisingly little detail about the two missions, or the training leading up to them... |

I was just at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex for the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation show and noticed this book in the store. I picked up a copy. Per the above review it doesn't sound like I'm in for a good space story. However, in just thumbing through the book it does look like a large amount is about his training and flights. That is followed with a large section about his current cause and foundation, The Harris Foundation in Houston Texas. Are there any other reviews out there? Amazon and B&N only have the fast blurbs. | |
