Anyone seen Topps Heritage: Heroes of Spaceflight cards? They are like mini artifact presentations with a twist. Anyone have more information on these? |

This is the second set of Topps' American Heritage series of cards. According to Beckett magazine's blog: The product will arrive in early August with a combination of two autographs, cut signatures, patches, Relics or stamp cards in every 24-pack hobby box. It looks to be a product heavy on political memorabilia as well as NASA memorabilia for all you space fans. Beckett provides a sampling of the set's cut-autograph cards: Joseph Kerwin Shannon Lucid Ken Mattingly Bruce McCandless James McDivitt Judith Resnick Harrison Schmitt | | David Scott Deke Slayton Kathryn Sullivan Jack Swigert Al Worden Stuart Roosa Sally Ride | | John F. Kennedy Guion Bluford Frank Borman Neil Armstrong Bob Crippen Donn Eisele Ronald Evans | | Owen Garriott Buzz Aldrin John Glenn Jim Irwin |
The set also includes patch cards commemorating "Heroes of Spaceflight" -- "a 28-card set with all patches from the manned Mercury, Gemini and Apollo missions represented on cards limited to just 61 copies apiece." And then there are relics cards, again Beckett provides a list: - Apollo 11 Command Module Thermal Protection
- Apollo 15 Guidance and Navigation Chip
- Apollo Soyuz Command Module Thermal Protection
- Shuttle Discovery Shuttle Orbiter Payload Bay Liner
- Shuttle Atlantis Shuttle Orbiter Payload Bay Liner
- Shuttle Columbia Shuttle Orbiter Payload Bay Liner
- Shuttle Endeavour Shuttle Orbiter Payload Bay Liner
- Spacelab Wiring
- Shuttle Columbia Shuttle Orbiter Payload Bay Thermal Blanket
- Shuttle Discovery Shuttle Orbiter Payload Bay Thermal Blanket
- Shuttle Discovery Shuttle Orbiter Payload Bay Blanket
- Shuttle Discovery Shuttle Orbiter Payload Bay Clamp Seal
- Shuttle Atlantis Shuttle Orbiter Payload Bay Thermal Blanket
- Shuttle Endeavour Shuttle Orbiter Payload Bay Thermal Blanket
This set is not limited to space subjects; there are presidential and political cut autographs and relics, as well as sports relics and Medal of Honor and Presidential Medal of Freedom cards. |

Yes, I did see them on eBay. I saw mostly Space Shuttle cards but was unaware there was Apollo relics (and even a Neil Armstrong cut autograph!). Cool stuff guys, expensive, but cool. |

Where do they typically sell these? |

I would suggest checking with your local hobby or comic book shop, if you do not have a local store that specializes in baseball and trading cards. |

The hunt for the Apollo 11, 15, and the Neil Armstrong card begins... |

I think the cross-over appeal of collectible hobbies is terrific. I still check out a sports card show from time to time and will certainly be on the lookout for some of these space related cards. Kudos to the sports hobby industry for recognizing the desirability and collectability of NASA-related trading cards. |

It's kind of neat that someone could potential own an artifact or get a valuable signature for very little investment. Of course, it's not all that different from playing the lottery... though the odds are more in your favor than the typical lottery drawing.I just hope they have done their homework with regards to obtaining authentic signatures for some of the historical people listed on their website... Armstrong, Kennedy, Lincoln, Babe Ruth, etc. It would be pretty disappointing to open up a pack, see an Armstrong card, then notice that it's a hooktail forgery! |

Not speaking of the Armstrong in these packs, I have seen a few other astronaut ‘cut’ cards from trading card companies in past years that contained the signed portion of personal checks. Irwin and Schirra come with mind with that (eBay #190330078825 being a great example). I assume in doing that, the card companies are hedging their bets so to speak, in that a personal check is often a safer bet for an individual's authentic signature than anything else. |

Man, these Heritage cards on eBay go on for pages... still not at the page which highlights the astronauts. |

The Spacelab wiring card has a picture of Skylab on it. Is the wire from Skylab or from Spacelab that went up on the Space Shuttle? On the back of the card it only says "On the front of this card is an authentic piece of wiring from Spacelab." |

The photo of Skylab is an error. It should be a photo of the Spacelab that flew on a Shuttle mission. There's at least one other error: One of these cards has a piece of the Kapton foil that covered the Apollo spacecraft that flew on the Apollo-Soyuz mission, yet the photo on the card shows the Soyuz spacecraft. Has any other collectSPACE member found other errors on these cards? |

Just wondering if anyone has or has seen the Apollo 11 or Apollo 15 relic cards from this set yet?I managed to collect all of the shuttle relics, and have been outbid numerous times on the ASTP relic. |

I have a spare Friendship 7/Mercury 6 patch card from this set (HSFP-3) if anyone has another patch card from the set they want to swap. |

... just another idea of "presenting" and displaying these relic cards: The card is displayed in a custom deep frame and embedded in a custom made acrylic scope. So the card seems to float in front of the background....yeah, I know... it's nice. |

My understanding on many of these is that there's only 61 cards for each of the flown objects (such as the bay liners). This makes them much more rare, and the prices recently being asked show that the market is there.[I just managed to find two of them for less than $20 each... one for Spacelab and one for Atlantis.) |

Having recently purchased two boxes of these cards, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. I only wanted space cards and relics, but I found I enjoyed a number of other cards as well. Two of the relics I found were uniform material from WWII, which I thought was pretty neat. I'm going to give most of the other cards to my seven year-old cousin. |

Well, I live in what my boyfriend refers to as Mayberry, so I can't speak about hobby stores. However, I have seen them online in a few places. You have to buy the whole box. I found mine on amazon.com. |

Just wondering if anyone has ever seen a pic of the Apollo relics from this set? I've purchased most of the shuttle relic cards but have never seen the Apollo 11, 15 or the Apollo-Soyuz card.If someone has a pic please post. I'm dying to see what they look like. Have never seen them for sale on eBay either. Many thanks to one and all. |

Over the past two years I recall that the Apollo Soyuz card has been on eBay two times, both selling for a few hundred dollars each. I don't think the Apollo 11 or 15 cards have ever been on eBay.I am hoping to scan in all the shuttle cards for reference purposes in the near future. |

Do the patch cards feature flown patches? If not, what's the appeal or collectability if they are not and featured alongside signatures and flown shuttle pieces? The patch prices go for higher prices than the shuttle pieces, but I don't see any "flown" claim on the card itself. Can anyone clear this up? |

The patches are not flown, but were custom made for this set and limited to just 61 pieces each. |

I discovered these by accident the other day and bought a SpaceLab wiring relic at a local hobby store.Has Topps ever identified which flight(s) the relic flew on? |

To my knowledge, no flight history has been released, other than the orbiter on which the item was used. |

There's no information on orbiters regarding the SpaceLab wiring other than that it is space flown.Do you know if Topps had said which orbiter it came from? |

The only information released has been what appears on the cards themselves (again, to my knowledge). |
