Springer's website behaves in a strange way right now but both Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk give release dates of December 2014 and January 2015 respectively. |

It is hard to say when the fourth and final volume in the series will be released because one chapter remains to be finished, and that will take a while because Paolo is attending too many parties. |

Without a smiley at the end of the last sentence, I don't know if you're joking or not. |

What is the last mission you plan to cover in the book? Curiosity? |

Fantastic! I really love this series. It was really the first introduction I had to you and Paolo. Tell me, would you two ever consider a fifth volume in five to ten years? |

Maybe around 2020 when enough has happened to fill another volume. |

Latest news from Paolo - he is running late on preparing the final chapter owing to pressure of his day job. It won't be submitted until the autumn, which pushes the publication of Vol.4 into early 2014. On the other hand, the period covered by the book will include part if 2013 instead of cutting off late in 2012. Swings and roundabouts. |

Okay folks, Paolo and I have just updated the chapters for RESS(4) and it will go for layout later this month, so expect publication in the summer sometime. |

Just received Volume 4 yesterday and I think this is the best version of all. The text so far is full of detail and easy to read at the same time. It starts with a chapter on Rosetta (how timely) and ends with an addendum with a few missions missed in earlier volumes and updates on several missions. The pictures are incredible; most I have never seen before. There is a selfie taken from the deck of the MRO and an artist concept of the Mars Smart Lander, which proposed using the forerunner of the landing system for Curiosity. The book covers past missions, future missions and proposed missions. It covers everything from Ikaros (the Japanese solar sail spacecraft) to Chang 2 (the Chinese asteroid spacecraft). In my opinion, this series is the ultimate review of Robotic exploration. You should have all four volumes in your library! |
