There is a great collectors edition magazine just out from "Sky at Night Magazine" all about the 40th Anniversary of Apollo 11. It is £5.99 and well worth a copy. |

Apparently this is a special limited edition and is only available online or in WH Smith, according to the SaN forum. Has anyone actually seen it in stores in the UK yet? |

- Saturn V (Peter Bond)
- In Training (Picture Special)
- The Longest Journey To Work (Piers Bizony)
- The Eagle Has Landed (Graham Southorn)
- Launch (Picture Special)
- Assuming Control (Giles Sparrow)
- The BBC's Man On The Scene (Sarah Reed)
- A Safe Landing (Will Gater)
- On The Moon (Picture Special)
- A Story Set In Stone (Dr Wendell Mendell)
- From Space To The Small Screen (Radio Times)
- Looking Back (Chris Bramley)
- Return to Earth (Picture Special)
- Trapped In A Trailer (David Darling)
- How Do We Know It Wasn't All A Hoax (Dr Martin Hendry)
- DVDs & Books
- The Last Word From The First Man (Professor James R. Hansen, interview with Neil Armstrong)
- Celebrations (Picture Special)
Hope this helps - a really good addition to my library. |

Has anyone else in the US tried to order this through the BBC site? It keeps telling me I want "Sky at Night" binders instead. I've emailed them, but I was curious as to whether anyone else has had the same problem. Thanks! |

FWIW neither W.H.Smiths in Liverpool or Birkenhead have this or expect to get it. |

I'm going to give the Reading branch a try tomorrow, my local one didn't have it but then that's no surprise. Maybe would have stood a better chance if Kerry Katona had been on the front cover! |

Just ordered two copies from the BBC website. No shipping payable, so easier than tracking down a copy in WHS. |

WHS in Kingston had several copies. The Epsom store didnt. (Neither did the Dover Port store after passport control - although they had a few Apollo 10 editions.) |

Same problem ordering from Switzerland. Also emailed them about this. quote: Originally posted by gliderpilotuk: Just ordered two copies from the BBC website.
I haven't found the book/magazine from the BBC website you're referring to. It's only "available" from the link provided by taylora98's post. |

If you follow the link to the BBC website, find ADULT, then SKY AT NIGHT magazine. Click on "website". This then has two ways to purchase the Special Apollo 11 Souvenir (they both talk about pre-ordering, so the website is a little out of date!) Hope this helps. Thanks for all the "heads-up" on new publications. |

That's the link provided by taylora98! And the one that doesn't work for us, overseas buyers! quote: Originally posted by OLDIE: If you follow the link to the BBC website, find ADULT, then SKY AT NIGHT magazine.
Been there, done that = doesn't work! (Or back to square one.)Okay, I could eventually call them but then I'll probably end not understanding a word they say - and yes, I'm "supposed" to be British... quote: Thanks for all the "heads-up" on new publications.
You're most welcome about the new pubs! |

Has anyone from outside the U.K. tried e-mailing the BBC on their helpline? This is listed as bbc@servicehelpline.co.uk on their subscription web page. Could be worth a try (if only to find out what the problem is!). |

Just did - again. If you click on the email address from the Sky At Night website, the link gives you a wrong email (a "r" is missing in the word "service"), so the first time it bounced back. Now I have emailed both the BBC and Sky At Night: skyatnight at servicehelpline.co.uk and bbc at servicehelpline.co.uk. Let's see if anyone answers. The more emails they get the more likely they will answer. |

Received an email from the BBC helpdesk this AM...For now, at least, the Apollo 11 special issue is only available to subscribers in the UK. So as a last resort, a bleg: If any cSers on the Old Sod are willing to procure a couple of these for me (obviously I'll remit cover price plus mailing costs), please email me. THANKS! |

Yes. Although when you click on "place your order", the image is still of Sky at Night magazine binder! The description of the item ordered is however correct. Which one will I get, the binder or the magazine? |

I have been a daily reader of the cS site for several years and have been developing my collection through some great dealers, several Autographica shows and the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation show at Kennedy Space Center last November which was a truly memorable experience. This is my first posting and look forward to many more.Regarding the Sky at Night Collectors Edition of 'Man on the Moon', I purchased the only one they had in my local WH Smith store last weekend and it really is a great read but yesterday whilst visiting a local city centre store to my amazement they had a shelf full which I duly purchased. I therefore have seven copies available to anyone who would like to purchase one. Magazine plus postage and packing: - UK mainland £9.50
- Europe (tracked postage) $25
- US (tracked postage) $30
I accept PayPal. Please e-mail me off list for details at: whitepeter8@aol.com |

I received my copy today which I ordered via the BBC magazines website. Its an excellent publication, well worth the £5.99! My only complaint is that they didn't credit me for the East Crater Moonpan on page 47! Mike Constantine http://moonpans.com |

Just a note about another sighting of the magazine. There was a copy for sale in the larger WH Smiths at London Waterloo (the one in the centre of the station not off to the side) this afternoon. I'm afraid I was just travelling through en route so I can't buy it for anyone but thought it was worth mentioning in case anyone is from round there who wanted a copy. |

The May issue #48/CD 48 has a CD that includes the Apollo 10 Special. A complete copy of the original Press Kit (PDF), some videos in flight activities (silent) and PR photos are included (hear no evil, see no evil and say no evil photo). I purchase this excellent British magazine at Border's because it usually covers manned and unmanned spaceflight quite well. (I like the pictures and the format.) I recently went through all the past CDs and found on #29 an interview from 18 November 1970 with Neil Armstrong conducted by Sir Patrick Moore. It is very obvious that Mr. Armstrong is very uncomfortable being interviewed. Once he gets going it's good. Neil talks about the color contrasts of the lunar surface in different lighting, looking up at the "sky" and so on. This interview is maybe 10 minutes in length and in black and white and it's really fascinating hearing and seeing Mr. Armstrong in an interview since they are rare. This CD also has interview with Gene Cernan, the last man. These CDs usually have a lot of good stuff on them. I have located numerous interviews with Apollo astronauts (many with Cernan). The main topics are usually astronomy, which are of interest to me. But there are some treasures mixed in. If you run across it at the bookstore give it a glance. It isn't cheap. $8.75 an issue. |

There is another interesting publication out too - exclusive to W H Smith. It is a reproduction of the Daily Mirror newspaper of Monday July 21st,1969 packaged with the Discovery channel's DVD documentary "NASAs greatest missions - Landing the Eagle". It costs £7.99. |

Sounds quite good but I think I'd rather have paid less and just had the newspaper repro as I already have the series on DVD |

Got mine today but I immediately noticed that in the computer drawing of the Apollo 11 landing site, the LM is 180° wrongly oriented. The astronauts got out on the shadow side of the LM, so the landing leg with ladder should point to the West. Armstrong's photo shows the gray backside of the ascent stage...Could someone check page 47 and check this out? |

This NASA image superimposed the lay-out of a baseball field over the lunar map of the landing site in order to give US citizens an idea of the size of the landing site. Most Americans are familiar with the size of a baseball field...The Lunar Module leg with the ladder should point into the shadow of the LM as in the NASA lay-out. |
