Edward J. Dwight, first African-American aerospace test pilot candidate at the USAF Aerospace Test Pilot School at Edwards, has authored his autobiography "Soaring on the Wings of a Dream: The Struggles and Adventures of the "First Black Astronaut" Candidate". The book is available as both signed and as part of a limited box set including the signed book, two small Dwight sculptures, and a giclee print of one of his paintings. |

This certainly looks like an interesting publication, although I'm wondering how it will stack up against the extremely well-written chapter on Dwight's life in J. Alfred Phelps's excellent "They Had a Dream: The Story of African-American Astronauts." Chuck Yeager's view on being forced to accept Dwight at Edwards and into the ARPS through President Kennedy and Curtis LeMay's intervention and insistence is well documented in Phelp's book. I'm hoping this will be an honest account of those events as I'll certainly be a buyer for a copy.On a far more humorous note, I've often wondered what would have happened if Dwight had made it into the NASA astronaut corps and been assigned to GT-4. Imagine Ed White, Jr. and Ed Dwight, Jr. on the same crew! |

Strange. Amazon.com says it hasn't been released and the book does not exist on the publisher's web site. I've emailed them. Stay tuned. |

A rather late response from my part...For those interested in the book, email (or fax) the publisher directly (it's not available on amazon, despite two links to the book). |

Ed has an interesting style to his sculpture. Too bad he has not done anything space themed. |
