FirstMoonStep.com is taking pre-orders now for a limited edition print of artist Paul Calle's pencil drawing of Buzz Aldrin's bootprint. According to the website, the "life-size" 17 by 22 inch Giclées are limited to a run of 250 artist-signed prints priced at $125 each. Calle, an original member of NASA's Art Program, was present when the Apollo 11 astronauts suited for launch, and later commemorated their mission by creating the art for the "First Man on the Moon" U.S. stamp. |

In addition to Paul Calle's "First Step", I learned today from Chris Calle that there are also available several limited edition Giclée prints of his father's Apollo 11 "Suiting Up" sketches that were drawn as Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins donned there spacesuits for launch on the morning of July 16, 1969. All are signed by Paul Calle, and those that depict Mike Collins are also signed by the command module pilot. Paul and Chris Calle will be guests at SpaceFest in San Diego this February, where they will discuss the NASA Art Program and designing space stamps. |

I received today three of Paul Calle's prints I ordered and they are spectacular. They are large, well printed and on thick stock. The "First Step" print is especially striking. I highly recommend these top-quality prints to space art collectors. |

I took the First Step giclee to SpaceFest in San Diego and had it signed in pencil in the margins by Aldrin (A11), Bean (A12), Mitchell (A14), Scott (A15), Duke (A16) and Cernan (A17). It's the prize piece of my space art collection. |

Eventually I want to get "First Step", but my first goal is to get two or three of the "Suiting Up" series of prints. While they are not 'finished' works I think they capture the feeling and excitement of the pre-launch process in a way that photography never could. I really like lines and flow of the drawings. While done quickly they are testament to Mr. Calle's skills as an artist. My long term goal is to obtain the entire series. Great works all of them. |
