I'm sure many of you at cS are familiar with the June 1962 issue of National Geographic that covered John Glenn's orbital Mercury flight. It features a remarkable telephoto photo of the launch from the south end of the Cape, credited to NGS photographer Otis Imboden I believe. In my opinion this is one of the most dramatic launch photos ever captured on film, and I would like to approach National Geographic about getting a copy of it from the original negative or transparency. Does anyone here have any contacts at NGS, or can offer any advice as to how I can approach them? Recent photos from as far back as the 1980's are available for sale at the NGS web site, but there is no indication that older images are available for reproduction. The MA-6 launch photo in the magazine has that funny washed out'comic book' appearance that does not look very realistic, hence my desire to get hold of the original. Any suggestions?
