Would anyone here happen to know if it's possible to obtain/purchase prints of the pieces of art from the NASA gallery? Specifically, prints of art pieces found here. Thanks! -Joe |

I think the problem with those is that they are not in the public domain (artist copyright).I do have a grey folder issued by NASA entitled "Selections from the NASA Art Collection" which contains 10 prints (28 x 35 cm), issued during Richard Truly's tenure as administrator. I have asked several times if there were plans to reissue/reprint those (some are just simply beautiful!) but apparently that's not the case (copyright issues?) and was told to refer to: NASA and the Exploration of Space with Works from the NASA Art Collection by R. Launius, Bertram Ulrich, foreword by John Glenn. Stewart, Tabori & Chang, ISBN 1-55670-696-0,224p., 1998. Out of print (apparently). No photos in this book just reproduction of a lot of NASA art. Hope that helps. Chris. |

Two other books you may want to consider:"Eyewitness to Space", the holy grail of artwork and drawings from the Art Program of NASA 1963-1969, with a preface by Thomas Paine, this book has "palates" that can be remove and are suitable for framing. About $40 from Amazon; ISBN:0810901129. Another good one is "The Art of Robert McCall". I found a 1st edition at a library sale for $15. I have "NASA and The Exploration of Space" as well, but "Eyewitness to Space", in my humble opinion is the holy grail |

Thanks for the heads-up on the publications. I actually have "NASA and the Exploration of Space". Bought that when it first came out a couple years back. The other book doesn't interest me so much as I'm primarily interested in prints from the Shuttle era, which that pre-dates.Pretty disappointing to hear that they may be no way to get copies of any those. A lot of those would look good around the office area. Hopefully someone will come up with some good news. |

Back in the 1980s I received about five artworks depicting NASA aircraft (Boeing 747, X-15, etc.) and there's also this book with artwork on Hughes spacecraft: "Hughes: Space and Communications - A Perspective" (Hughes, 1982). |

There is another book containing exclusively art from the shuttle era. This is the 1984 NASA publication EP-192 "Social Sciences and Space Exploration". Unfortunately, as it is meant for college students, for every painting you get about two to three pages of Social Science "guff". If you can put up with this, and are primarily interested in the shuttle, this may be for you. There are copies on the Abebooks website. |

Not an easy web search when your name is James Dean! but I've found this website (although no info on the book). Thanks to Kim Poor for pinpointing where to look (Michael Collins' Liftoff book). Chris. |
