Does anyone else have a subscription to "Liftoff" magazine, the launch program sold at KSC? I had a subscription and received one for STS-114. I called the Kennedy Space Center gift shop and they said there was no issue for STS-121. Did the magazine go out of business. There was no phone call when I searched the website at www.liftoffmag.com. Any help would be appreciated. |

Powercat, I found the following message posts on Google sci.space.shuttle newsgroup that may be of interest to you: I subscribed to this magazine for 10 issues. I got the double-sized one for STS-114, which counted as two issues, but nothing for STS-121 or STS-115. I sent them a note and have not heard back. Is anyone else having this problem? I sure miss STS Mission Profiles. Thanks. Mark Lopa ------------------------------------ Reply good morning Mark YES, i got a note from the Space Shop, that for STS-121 will be no Lift-Off Magazine. But, i don't know why! Greetings from Switzerland Roger ---------------------- Chris. |

Today I contacted the Trenton, MI office that printed "Liftoff" magazine. The magazine has been discontinued due to a conflict between KSC and the publisher. According to the printers, old issues are being sold, printer assets are being sold, and the remaining monies for already paid subscriptions are to be divided by percentage of remaining issues one had left. It sounds like subscribers will not be reimbursed totally for their remaining subscriptions. I thought I would let those who might have had a subscription know what happened.PowerCat |

Didn't the folks at KSC collect the subscriptions? Or were they part of the annual pass? I don't remember sending my check to Trenton.Tim |

The senior editor of "Liftoff" is Marion Hall. The staff writer was Lauren Thackeray. I was told the staff was let go before any issue for STS-121 or STS-115 could be developed. The company that I sent my check to was made out to Transworld Publications. The address of the company is: Liftoff Magazine P.O. Box 137 Trenton, MI 48183 PowerCat |

Thanks for the names. I just found a copy of the mag and looked at their masthead. I didn't recognize any of the names. |

Another victim of the US Postal Service, like STS Mission Profiles? Or is it because some services at KSC (their web site for one) has been transferred to an outside contractor, and that contractor may have felt that it was not worth publishing- after all, there has a been a flight hiatus for 2 years after Columbia and again one year between the two Discovery flights. It was also maybe redundant with what's on their web site....Just suggestions.

I have contacted the editor of Liftoff magazine and unfortunately they are no longer going to be making anymore issue due to conflict with KSC. I have purchased back issues of the magazine and I have all issues except for the STS-104 issue. If anyone who reads this post has an extra copy of this issue I would like to contact you to purchase it to make my collection complete. Thank you for your cooperation |

A few years ago when Glen Swanson created Liftoff magazine he was not allowed to use the name due to a book title and so it became Quest. What a shame.Art LeBrun |
