I am happy to report the Apollo 7 DVD masters were wrapped up today and sent to the replicators. They should be back and shipping around January 20th.

The Liftoff DVD set and the Apollo 9 sets are both being finished up now and should follow close at around the end of the month.

We have all our film in now on Apollo 12 and it looks very, very nice. This set is due around the end of February.

Happy New Year, everyone, and thanks for the support!

Best regards,
Mark Gray

Is there a weblink where we can view more information ?
What's the status on " Unmanned Exploration " DVDs ( Mariners to Mars, Viking, Pathfinder, MER,... ) ?

Mark,

Is Apollo 16 still on target for January too as the website states? If so, this is going to be an expensive month since I still have to catch up Apollo 10 too....

Apollo 16 probably won't be along until late February/early March.

We will be doing something on Apollo 1, but not for some months yet. Also, we will be doing some unmanned material, but not until next year.

I got confirmation today that Apollo 7 will be in next Wednesday and will begin shipping then.

The Liftoff and Apollo 9 masters are also nearing completion, and will be along soon.

Best,

I just purchased the Apollo 10 film. It is just great. Now I have the set of all the films are they are the best films I have ever seen. Great job Mark. I'll be waiting for Apollo 7. I also think it would be great to do one for Apollo 1.

Thanks
Matt

Thanks for the kind words. Apollo 7 is in and will be along as soon as the post can deliver them.

We finished up delivering the masters on Apollo 9 today - so that set will be about 2 weeks in replication. Look for it no later than the middle of February.

Next along will be Liftoff, which we are finishing up now, and then Apollo 12.

Thanks to everyone for their support.

Best regards,

Hi Mark,

Just curious, what magic do you use to get the material on the DVDs to look so incredible? I have seen enough documentary material in my time, and everytime I pop in your sets it is like viewing a whole new mission!!!

BTW The 10 and 7 sets are amazing. I am really curious to view the 12 set.

Thanks again Mark. I happily part with my money knowing the type of product I'll get from you!

Dwight

Mark,
I look forward to seeing the APOLLO 10 DVD set. Unfortunately it has been in transit via Global Priority for the last 15 days (and counting) which is three times longer than the usual delivery time. Monday will be Day 18 (and counting).

You're right. Global should take 3-5 days. Sounds like something's up with it. Was Apollo 10 the only item?

Best,
Mark

Dwight,

Unlike most, we go back to the original film and do new transfers on the material. Most just borrow the stuff from NASA (it's much, much cheaper) and dub it from there. Problem is those transfers were made with 1972 technology. The difference is night and day. It's one of the main reasons I started doing this - I wanted to see the material transferred using today's technology.

We also made a significant equipment investment and keep it digital from acquisition through to disc, and edit uncompressed. Our final encoder is a hardware based encoder - not software based. And we made a significant investment in random noise reduction equipment which helps on the pre-encoding noise (and also does a good job on some Apollo video that is really noisy.)

I'm glad someone has noticed!

I especially love it when I find some material originally shot on 35mm film - it's just stunning at the other end. On the upcoming liftoff set look at the Viking launch and you'll see what I mean. It was shot in 35mm.

And the great thing is that most of the Mercury stuff was shot in 35... so it is looking terrific.

Best,
Mark Gray

Mark,
Further to my comment about the delay in my Apollo 10 DVD set: yes, it was only Apollo 10. I'll give it a few more days, but when should we assume it's lost?

Hi BLACKARROW,
Has your Apollo 10 set arrived yet?, the reason why i ask is that i've ordered the Apollo 13 & 17 sets and i think i'm up to day 18 now of awaiting delivery !!

TLI,
It never did arrive, but when Spacecraftfilms heard about it, they sent me another set which arrived within 6 days. It's worth waiting for, but if yours doesn't arrive in the next few days, I suggest you report the problem to them.

Glad to see that SPACECRAFT FILMS came through for you, still no luck with mine, SF are aware but we are giving it a little while longer it may yet come (maybe),
It's strange, i've ordered twice before with no problems both times arriving after about a week, this time i paid extra for 'Global Priority' and this happens, this could work out really expensive for SF if their dispaches keep going adrift !
