Only VuDu for the digital version. iTunes is unfortunately not an option.

Is there any way to get in touch with the powers that be (Ron Howard?) at Imagine Entertainment to hopefully fix the CGI errors in this Blu-ray release of "From The Earth To The Moon"?

I know you probably say most folks don't care, but I believe Howard and Hanks do, as do a lot of people who know how these spacecraft actually looked.

I'm afraid, short of a "director's cut" or "executive producer's cut" sometime in the future, that nothing is likely to be done to restore FTETTM to its previous quality.

In my opinion, of the two, Hanks has shown a greater dedication to accuracy than Howard. But in the case of the recent release, it is probably too late.

I have always been frustrated that it has taken so long to get a Blu-ray version, given how long Blu-ray technology has been around. Equally frustrating to me, is that a journey through YouTube can yield many homemade CGI Apollo spacecraft simulations that look photo realistic — which makes me gape in awe at the crude renderings in the new release. I was expecting something of that quality.

My impression was that the team that worked on the Blu-ray version did not have the passion of the original production team.

I bet if Hanks or Howard knew about these errors they would see to it they are fixed. They may (??) well know about the errors since both were big into the production.

The error of having a ship built in the 1980's recover Gemini 8 has been known about since the show first came out, and all that would have been required to fix it was changing one piece of stock footage for another.

So I probably wouldn't hold your breath on CGI being re-done.

Well, why did whoever change the CGI at all? Really wasn't needed. Of course there were small errors but nothing as noticeable as they are in this Blu-ray release.

The original graphics were rendered in standard definition. New graphics were needed to release the series in HD.

Yes, but they could have done it without changing models is what I'm saying, I mean the ladder on the LEM on its back side? Not paying attention to what they were doing, probably could have cared less.

Yes, they could have a done a shot-for-shot recreation or, if they really didn't care, use much more rudimentary renderings. The fact they didn't says to me they did care, but made some errors along the way.

The series had numerous errors before (enough to fill a nitpicker's guide) and it has some more errors now. For most of the audience, then and now, the errors will go unnoticed.

I agree Robert, the errors in the first release could be looked over, but this Blu Ray release are just too many to not say something. Even folks who aren't into Apollo history are seeing these new errors, hopefully? One day there will be an astronauts' cut or whatever to fix. I'm sure by now Hanks is aware.

^^^ This.

I think the value of FTETTM is in capturing what it was like during the Apollo program, what stresses the families went through, and the challenges involved in making the program work. The series succeeds spectacularly in this regard.

If one wants to see the actual equipment used there are lots of documentaries, photographs, and museums to see these things.

FTETTM celebrates the people of Apollo... the astronauts, the families, the engineers, the press coverage, etc ... despite the technical inaccuracies in the series, I find myself watching episodes of the series more often than I watch documentaries.

And if I want to introduce someone to the US space program, hands down, FTETTM is the best way for me to do it.

I've enjoyed watching it again, but yeah... there have been those moments of cringing at some of the scenes!

Thank you for posting this. FTETTM is certainly my most watched (and rewatched and rewatched....) TV series of all time.

All the Best - Burns
