The Astronaut Scholarship Foundation (ASF) presents an exclusive autograph opportunity with Scott Carpenter. Mail your memorabilia and photographs today through March 19, for the Mercury astronaut's signature.Scott Carpenter piloted the second American manned orbital flight, Mercury-Atlas 7, on May 24, 1962. Inside the Aurora 7 spacecraft, he orbited the Earth three times, reaching a maximum altitude of 164 miles. In 1965, Carpenter participated in the Navy's Man-in the-Sea Project as an Aquanaut in the SEALAB II program off the coast of La Jolla, California. During the 45-day experiment, Carpenter spent 30 days living and working on the ocean floor. Carpenter has graciously agreed to autograph fans' and collectors' personal items to benefit the ASF, an organization that he and his fellow original Mercury astronauts founded in 1984. Partial proceeds collected from the signing will benefit college students pursuing advanced degrees in mathematics and science. For those without items to have signed the ASF will offer a selection of photographs of Carpenter taken throughout his Mercury flight, as well as copies of the book he wrote with his daughter, "For Spacious Skies." Autograph fees begin at just $35 per item. For a complete schedule of fees and instructions, see: http://www.astronautscholarship.org/2004_carpenter.html IP: Logged |

In response to my query to ASF, I received information that Scott Carpenter will also sign space covers or NASA publications, in addition to photos and his book. If the covers or NASA publications are without other signatures, the $35 base fee applies, I was told.IP: Logged |
