I'm not sure where he was going after Seattle, but if you are on the list of places to meet him, you better double check before you go. Tonight I spent an hour and a half driving to the bookstore (a distance that normally would just take 20 minutes) since someone spilled a load of snow mobiles off a trailer on the freeway and the daily Seattle traffic mess caught me. I got there about 10 minutes before the signing was supposed to start only to find that it was cancelled since he had a death in the family and couldn't make it. Tom IP: Logged |

Tom ....sorry to hear about Carpenters cancelation....... but I am trying to picture what a spilled load of snow mobiles would look like. Doesn't paint a pretty picture in my mind. That's gotta be a once in a life time experience!Aloha Dave IP: Logged |

Unfortunately, the mess was cleaned up by the time I got there. After sitting for an hour and only going about 3 miles, I was hoping to at least be rewarded with a view of the pile! No, this isn't unusual for Seattle. We are competing with LA for the worst traffic in the country now. The government here is more interested in building sports stadiums that we voted against, than fixing the traffic problems and the unemployment here. (Don't get me started!)Back to the space discussions... The bookstore was taking names and addresses so Carpenter could sign some bookplates and send them out. I would much rather have met him in person, but understand that family stuff is more important. Tom IP: Logged |

Speak for yourself, Some of us did vote for the stadiums. Seattle's traffic has been a problem since it was developed with no roam for expansion. The people also voted for a new rail system that I have paid taxes for years now and have yet to see any development of that either. I am disappointed also. Since I am stationed in Virginia now my sister was going to go to signing for me. I missed the Washington DC signing by one day since I was on assignment to Alabama. We could always order the book already signed from the internet site, but meeting him in person is always fun. I found a good deal on the book for $12 in a used bookstore, so I was planning on buying a second one for a friend of mine to get signed last night also. Oh well, it's more important that he takes care of his family first. The latest idea is to build light rail between Seattle and the airport. I don't know where they plan on putting it. There was also a vote that passed to extend the monrail. I expect that to end up like the monorail on the Simpson's episode - if it ever gets built. Tom IP: Logged |

Carpenter's Colorado appearances have now all been postponed. No word on the remainder of the book tour as of yet, but the next event is not scheduled until February 18.IP: Logged |
