Mercury-Atlas 3 was launched from Launch Pad 14 at Cape Canaveral at 11:15 a.m. EST on April 25, 1961, in a test to qualify the Mercury spacecraft during orbit and reentry. The Atlas launcher malfunctioned and was destroyed by the Range Safety Officer about 40 seconds after liftoff. The spacecraft was recovered and was successfully reflown on MA-4.

Nice photo, Ed. After seeing all the Artemis 1 photos lately Atlas looks so small (lol).
