Half a century ago this week, the Apollo 10 crew answered questions from the news media during their preflight press conference in Houston. Tom Stafford, John Young and Gene Cernan (left to right) show their mission emblem, designed by North American artist Allen Stevens. |

Ed, you have no idea what bringing these photos back to our memories means. Show them to selected youngsters today and they couldn't even tell you their names. Thanks for keeping it fresh for us. |

Is there a 'story' behind why the two missions that Tom Stafford and Gene Cernan flew on together, Gemini 9 and Apollo 10, had mission emblems shaped like a shield? |

I have often wondered this too. In my view, Apollo 10 was one of the best crews ever assembled. |

Five flights behind and between them, no surprise. |

What was done with these "astronaut-used" (fingerprints and all!) mission emblem wooden plaques after the press conferences and after the missions? Were they given to the mission commander? Were they kept by NASA and displayed in Houston? |
