George Dowling, consultant pilot for Grumman Aircraft Corporation, prepares to participate in a test of support equipment in the Kennedy Space Center altitude chamber in August 1968. Also participating was astronaut Fred Haise. These tests were in support of the AS-503 mission, which then was still a high-altitude lunar module mission. The LM was to be moved into the altitude chamber for manned runs later that month, but by then it was bumped to AS-504 (Apollo 9). |

It looks like he borrowed Vance Brand's spacesuit. |

Well spotted, Henk. He is wearing the spacesuit that Vance Brand used during the Apollo 2TV-1 vacuum chamber test in June 1968. |

It says 2TV1 on it, going along with Ed's posting above about the prior suit use. |

Is this George Dowling still alive? Was it a common practise that pilots did this kind of work? I mean, it must be frustrating for a pilot to do some kind of astronaut test job ...and not being selected as an astronaut (assuming he wanted to be an astronaut). |
