Did Jeff Hanley, Constellation Program Manager, name NASA's next generation crew launch vehicle after himself? When Associate Administrator for Exploration Scott Horowitz was asked how the name Ares was proposed, he answered:
quote:
I just asked Jeff Hanley and [Exploration Launch Office manager] Steve Cook and all the people working on the program to look at a list of all these names and suggest a name to me that they would like to have represent their program and project. So they came to me with the name Ares and I approved it.
Before Hanley was program manager, he was a flight director at Houston Mission Control. His team name while on console? Ares Flight
But wait, there's more...
Hanley isn't the only former flight director working Exploration.
Cleon Lacefield is today Lockheed Martin's vice president and the company's Orion program manager but he previously led the control room.
Lacefield's team name? You guessed it. Orion Flight.
The plot thickens...
