First NASA patch I had - Skylab 4. We went to KSC in '76 when I was 7 years old and I remember the little bell glass light meter I got. Still have the patch. RIP |

Per Carr's obituary: Memorial services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation or HEAL Raising Our World Foundation, Inc. |

I grew up living across the street from the Carr Family on Tallowood Drive in El Lago Texas. He was a wonderfully kind man who always had time to talk with the neighborhood kids about anything they wanted to talk about. He always had a project he was working on, whether his MG-A sportscar renovation, an old wooden sailboat he refurbished for his family, a huge, 1950's diesel city bus he was modifying in order to take his family camping, and his beloved green Ford Gran Torino. I especially remember the night after the launch of the Skylab Saturn V that he was so excited to command. Everyone knew there was a problem but they were'nt quite sure at that early time what had happened. All the kids in the neighborhood met him down at the Moffatts lot near the lake to watch it as it was scheduled to fly over shortly after sunset (when it would be visible). I will never forget his dismay when as it came over the horizon, the main lab (which was very bright) was being trailed by several other smaller parts blinking as the sun would hit them as they tumbled. He was so upset, he knew those were the pieces of the lab that had broken away following the departure of the heat shield and solar array. Fortunately, the Skylab 2 crew commanded by Mr. Conrad was able to save the lab and the rest is history. A truly nice guy. He will always be remembered. |

Just to be completely accurate, I looked at a picture I had and it was an MG T-type. Beige. |
