From Expedition 62 flight engineer Drew Morgan of NASA from aboard the International Space Station: Rest in peace, Colonel Worden. Ad astra. Other tributes from Worden's fellow astronauts: 'Line of Grey, Be Thou at Peace!' Godspeed Al. — Buzz AldrinA lovely, bubbly man. I will miss him dearly. — Michael Collins Al Worden was an amazing person. Logical and artistic. What you see is what you get. Passionate. Authentic and caring. I never once beat him in golf, and I witnessed him beat his own age multiple times. I’ll do my best to continue some of the initiatives he valued most. — Gregory H. Johnson Saddened by this world's loss of Al Worden. Astronaut and Poet. I am blessed to call him friend and to have witnessed the joyous and thoughtful way he shared his experience with everyone. We'll miss you here with us on the planet Al. — Nicole Stott Such sad news. Al was such a kind, caring man with a great sense of humour - a real pro and someone I am honoured to have spent time with. Thoughts are with his family and friends. Ad astra Al. — Tim Peake What a genuinely caring and always funny person Al was. It was a privilege to know him. He will be missed. — Chris Ferguson A great spirit and pioneer... — Scott Parazynski Back in the 60s people said that we shouldn't send test pilots and engineers to space we should send poets and artists so they could share the experience with the rest of us. But they didn't consider that we did send someone to space who was all of the above. Al Worden was the first astronaut-poet. The world lost one of the greats last night. God Speed Al. You will be missed my friend. — Ron Garan |

I met Col. Worden several years ago at the Cosmosphere in Hutchinson, Kansas. He was a great gentleman to visit with and talk to. I will treasure my photo of him and I shaking hands. RIP, Colonel Worden. |

As is customary on these all to regular sad occasions I was going to post the usual “full stop” as a sign of respect. But I can’t let Al Worden’s passing go without saying how really sad I am to write this, Al was such a lovely lovely guy, always smiling and full of energy. Ad Astra Col Worden. |

I am deeply saddened to hear this. I remember several events Al attended in England. After one very convivial evening, I was sorely tempted to stay in bed the following morning, but I knew that Al Worden would be giving a talk at 10 o'clock. I told myself that listening to Al talking about flying to the Moon was reason enough to drag myself out of bed, and it was a wise decision. I probably also thought that such opportunities would not be around forever. Sadly, how true. Thanks for bringing history to life, Al. |

Oh my gosh! Just heard the news from my wife. He will be greatly missed and I will always cherish the moments we shared in our homes and in working together on various space projects. A very special person indeed and a great space ambassador...still at a loss of words at the moment, though. |
