This is very sad news indeed. I was fortunate to meet and speak with Alexei Arkhipovich on several occasions at the Autographica shows here in the UK. On his latter appearances, I always received a huge strong bear hug when we greeted each other. Something I will never forget. He kindly contributed a foreword to the 2005 Russia's Cosmonauts book (on TsPK) by Rex Hall, Bert Vis and myself. Alexei had a huge, warm personality, was always very helpful and forthright in his conversations, and was a real gentleman. He was a true pioneer and ambassador of human spaceflight, greatly admired around the world and he will be much missed. RIP Alexei. |

I met him once at a signing event where he signed my copy of "Both Sides of the Moon." I said good morning to him in Russian and I got a smile and good morning in return. He was a very friendly and approachable man. The story of him bleeding off pressure in his space suit during his EVA is a testament to his bravery and courage. Rest in Peace. |
