Another one of our heroes has passed. We are at that stage where we haven't had time to recognize one astronaut who has passed before another departs this earth. John's passing hit me hard. Ad Astra and R.I.P.

John Young came up with one of the best lines ever. When observing a failed test of the Gemini ejection seats when the hatches failed to open and the seats plowed through them, he quipped "a helluva headache, but a short one." |

A true legendary space flight pioneer with so many first-time space feats and accomplishments. Young was one of the first astronauts, along with Stafford and Cernan, that I got to see in person while in Cocoa Beach (1969). |

As far as I am concerned, there are amazing astronauts, and then there is John Young. He was a step above all of them. And now, every time I visit family and friends in Orlando, and drive on John Young Parkway, I will cry a little inside, but remember how blessed this country was to have him here for 87 years. |
