I cannot believe another astronaut (i.e. John Young) has passed away. :'(In addition, it also means two things: - The crew of Gemini 3 are no more.
- Tom Stafford is the last living survivor of Apollo 10.

He was my favorite. Got to meet him at KSC visitor center in 1999. |

You missed a few, actually:John Young was the 7th moonwalker to pass away, meaning that, now, less than half of them are still alive. The Apollo 16 crew of Young, Duke, and Mattingly was the last full crew of a lunar landing mission still with us. With Young's passing, there are no full lunar landing Apollo crews still alive. Apollo 8 is now the only Apollo lunar voyage crew without a deceased member. Similarly to the above, John Young and Charlie Duke were the only two moonwalkers from the same mission to still be with us. Now there's no more than one out of two moonwalkers still alive from each Apollo lunar landing. STS-2 is now the only two-man orbital shuttle crew where both members are still alive and the only orbital shuttle crew prior to STS-51J with every member still alive. EDIT: I almost forgot one. Jim Lovell is now the only man alive to travel to the moon twice. Lunar landings ended before the crews could repeat, leaving the opportunity to go back open only to those who went on pre-landing missions. Of those six men, only Lovell, Young and Cernan got back in line. Similarly, due to the Apollo 13 explosion and the passing of John Young, no man alive today has been to the moon more than once and walked on its surface. |
