I remember reading that Shepard, when asked why had chosen Mitchell and Roosa to fly with him, had allegedly replied "because I want to get back".Vale Admiral, Colonel, and Captain. |

I met Dr Mitchell on a few occasions, he signed a lithograph for me when I was a kid, still have the litho, still have the memories. RIP Dr Mitchell, you were an inspiration to me. |

Seemed like a very humble guy the times I met him. He was great about making himself available for autographs. Nice guy — it's a shame he's gone. |

That was a great statement from Administrator Bolden, in honor of moonwalker Mitchell. The Mitchell quote, on seeing Earth from the moon, was a perfect inclusion. RIP. |

I remember seeing Dr. Mitchell walking on the walkway at KSC between the theater and the plaza and I politely asked him to sign his book for me which he graciously obliged. It was a memorable astronaut encounter for me. |

RIP Dr. Mitchell..."The desire to live life to its fullest, to acquire more knowledge, to abandon the economic treadmill, are all typical reactions to these experiences in altered states of consciousness. The previous fear of death is typically quelled. If the individual generally remains thereafter in the existential state of awareness, the deep internal feeling of eternity is quite profound and unshakable." ― Edgar D. Mitchell |

Well this is very, very sad news. Captain Mitchell and I were in email communication last year and this culminated in him allowing me to interview him at his house the Monday following the ASF show.He was extremely kind to me and my friend and even gave us a tour of his house which was as unreal as it sounds. Captain Mitchell was in good spirits and made me laugh on more than one occasion. Even if he wasn't the sixth man to walk on the Moon, I would still have really liked him. I will miss him. |

Very sad news, I feel fortunate to have met Ed several times at Autographica and appreciate those opportunities to meet many of the early space pioneers here in the UK. Ed was always a gracious man and willing to answer questions thoughtfully and fully. Shortly after the flight of '14' I clearly recall the impression of seeing the picture of Antares sitting on the moon, tipped over slightly, reflecting the sunlight. It remains one of my favourite images from those early years. There was always the anticipation in those days of waiting for the images from NASA a few weeks after the flight, and the excitement of that familiar buff envelope arriving in the post. These are among my memories of Ed, Al and Stu and the adventure of finding more about Apollo 14 a little bit at a time, adding new information to fill the gaps. RIP Ed... Thanks to you and your colleagues for making my youth such a magical time...and so vivid in the memory |
