Would anyone have handy the Mission Elapsed Time (MET) intervals or other reference as to when John Young was serving as capcom during the Apollo 13 mission?Unfortunately, a searchable Apollo Lunar Surface Journal-like reference for Apollo 13 is not (yet) available. |

Robert, the Apollo 13 Manning List does not have Young listed as a capcom. Only Kerwin, Brand and Lousma. However, there were about a dozen surrounding Jack Lousma soon after the O2 tank blew. I emailed you the page of the mailing listing the capcoms. See you at Spacefest III. |

Thanks Sy, for the reply and the scan. I know Young served as Apollo 13 back-up commander but I was under the (perhaps mistaken) impression that he served as capcom. Maybe his role was not official but I am trying to determine if/when he spoke directly with the crew... |

I reviewed all of the Apollo manning lists 8-17. Young's name appears only once on the Apollo 17 manning list as one of three astronauts on shift three. He apparently didn't habituate the MOCR as was most of the Apollo astronauts' practice. By the way, at at an autograph signing session video interview, John stated that he was looking over my shoulder when the tank blew on Apollo 13 and said, "That doesn't look like an instrumentation problem to me." Of course, that was totally false, so I believe that John was kidding the interviewer. Really pretty funny. |

Haven't come across Young as capcom - even temporarily, though Charlie Duke did serve temporarily as CapCom since he was the Backup LMP and read up all the procedures for the PC+2 burn. |

There is a photo (S70-34902) -- taken following the emergency -- that shows Young seated at the capcom console alongside Lousma (identified as capcom) and Deke Slayton, with Brand and Mattingly standing behind them. |

Yes, I believe that is correct about Duke. Robert, you can see that I wrote in the Dukester's name on the A-13 manning list sheet I sent to you. |

Ah yes, one of my favorite A-13 pix. The crowd of astronauts grew to about a dozen. By the way, guess on which console the photog was sitting to take that pic? |

There you have it as reported above! My original mission commentaries confirm that Young did step in on a few occasions as a temporary Capcom for Apollo 13. |

While we're on the subject, does anyone know who were supposed to be the Apollo 13 EVA capcoms? |

Per the document Sy forwarded, the mission capcoms were: - Shift 1: Joseph Kerwin
- Shift 2: Vance Brand
- Shift 3: Jack Lousma
- Shift 4: Charlie Duke
According to the Apollo Lunar Surface Journal, Tony England was to have been the EVA capcom. |

In know Ken Mattingly was not on the official Apollo 13 Capcom list but he was a temporary Capcom for almost 2 hours on Day 6 for the read up of the special CM reactivation (power up) procedure. |
