Bill was the very first astronaut I ever met. He came to our home for dinner back in 1972(?). When we dropped him off at Lambert Field airport in St. Louis at his NASA trainer jet to fly back to Houston he just smiled and said "I'll beat ya home." No doubt he will be missed. It's not only that - Overmyer, also on STS-5 is gone. |

Perhaps it wasn't worded right, but Groups 7 (with Overmyer) thru 11 were included as having deceased members in my prior posting. |

Wow. His story and Brand's in "Homesteading Space" were a couple good ones, considering they would have been the two man team launched to Skylab to retrieve Bean's crew if he and Brand hadn't been able to come up with some contingency plans to bring a CSM home in the event that the thruster problem on the command module had gotten worse. It just goes to show you never quite know how long a person has on this planet. At least Bill got to fly in space, even if it was a very long wait. |

Not to take anything away from Bill Lenior's contributions, but Brand and Don Lind were the Skylab Rescue crew. |
