Dmitry Ilyich Kozlov, outstanding Russian space rocket designer and scientist, has passed away, reports Roscosmos.
A few hours ago the heart of the famous Russian scientist Dmitry Kozlov stopped. He was a team-mate of S. Korolev, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, awardee of many state medals and orders of the USSR and the Russian Federation, laureate of many other state prizes.

D.I.Kozlov was born on October 1, 1919 in the city of Tikhoretsk, Krasnodarsky krai, the Russian Federation.

In 1937, he left the secondary school and entered the Leningrad Military-Mechanical Institute. During the Great Patriotic War since the 1st of July, 1941 he was a member of Leningrad people's volunteer corps. He fought at the Leningradsky and Volkhovsky fronts in the 71st Independent Marine Rifle Subdivision. In September 1944, after the third wound he was demobilized, returned to the Institute and graduated from there in December 1945.

Since June 1946, he worked as a member of the Technical committee studying the salvage rocketry in Germany, where he met S.P. Korolev.

Since May 1946, he was Design Engineer, Head of Group of Plant № 88 of the Armament Ministry of the USSR (Kaliningrad city, Moskow region).

From June 1951 to 1958, he was Chief Designer of Ballistic Rocket R-5 and the first in the world Intercontinental Ballistic Missile R-7.

Since January 1961 he was Deputy General Designer OKB-1, Head and General Designer of Subdivision №3 OKB-1, First Deputy General Designer OKB-1, Head and General Designer of Subdivision №3 OKB-1 of Ministry of General Engineering USSR (Kuibyshev city). Under his leadership Kuibyshev Subdivision OKB-1 organized the serial production of rockets R-7, including Y.A. Gagarin's LV "VOSTOK". Since 1964 the Subdivision became the central organization in the country on development of national control space techniques.

Since January 1967 D.I. Kozlov worked as TsKB of Experimental Engineering First Deputy General Designer, Head and General Designer of TsKB of Experimental Engineering Subdivision in Kuibyshev. From August 1974 to 1983, he was Head and Chief Designer of the Central Specialized Design Bureau (Kuibyshev).

Since August 1983, he was Central Specialized Design Bureau (TsSKB) Head and General Designer.

Since April 1996, D.I.Kozlov was General Director -- General Designer of "TsSKB-Progress".

Since 2003 he is Honoured General Designer of "TsSKB-Progress".

D.I. Kozlov was a professor, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Corresponding member of Russian Academy of Sciences, member of International Academy of Astronautics, Tziolkovsky Academy of Astronautics, Russian Academy of Technological Sciences, Honoured member of Russian Engineering Academy, Russian Academy of Navigation and Traffic Control.

Kozlov's Awards and Honorary Titles are: The twice Hero of Socialist Labor, four Orders of Lenin, Order of October Revolution, Order of Red Star, Order of the Great Patriotic War of the 1st degree, Motherland Merit Order of the 2nd degree, three medals "Hammer and Sickle", medal "For Defense of Leningrad", medal "For Victory over Germany in Great Patriotic War 1941-1945", medal "Veteran of Labour", medal "For Valorous Labour" in Honor of Lenin`s 100-th Anniversary, medals for the 20th,30th, 40th,50th Anniversaries of Victory in Great Patriotic War 1941-1945, Zhukov Medal, and many others.

The memory about prominent Russian space rocket designer Dmitry Kozlov will remain in our hearts forever.
