Hotel rooms are going fast...there are no longer any available for arrival on May 31, if anyone was planning to come early.

A major auction house is in discussions with us to hold their normal Fall space auction instead at Spacefest III in June. It would have to be Friday evening, to avoid conflicts. More later.

Just booked the hotel for a week.

For anyone flying from the UK there's a good deal with US Airways (LGW) at £490 but with (reasonably slick) changes at Charlotte and Phoenix. It's only £10 more than flying to Phoenix.

I'd never fly US Airways again... back in 2007 EVERY flight we were on was over an hour late and on the Philadelphia to Manchester leg they put us on an airplane that they really shouldn't (it had brake problems and nearly overshot the runway!!)... plus they lost our luggage.

Lovely! It'll be great seeing Jim, again. Hopefully, Freddo will be tempted.

How does the old saying go? "You have to have bad luck to have any..."

I have been waiting for 8+ years to catch Mr. Lovell at an event. Between military deployments and other commitments, I have missed nearly every possible opportunity since 2002. As BAD luck would have it, I will be at Fort Dix, New Jersey during the 2011 event.

Does anyone know if you can mail-in any items (with payment, obviously) for signature? Thanks for any information you can provide.

Since we're at home for this Spacefest, there's a good chance of doing a mail-in signing the day after we close (Mon or Tues).

Kim, that is heartening news for those of us who are not physically able to attend Spacefest. Please do continue to give this serious thought.

As someone who would love to be there but can't because of prior obligations, I second the other comment about having mail-in signings. It would be great to have this option.

We've queried Lovell. He's out-of-town, but we should know soon. We can't do this for all astronauts...but Lovell and maybe one other.

For those not on Facebook, here (PDF) is a rough schedule to help visualize events. We have not scheduled any of the speakers yet (gray boxes).

The events are pretty much solid.

Since its only a 1600 mile drive each way I am excited to be planning for a roadtrip to Spacefest! I'm glad to see Jim Lovell and Fred Haise both in attendance. At ASF 2010 it was a pleasure talking to Jim Lovell. The piece that I had brought was destroyed in transit, so I didn't get all the attending moonwalkers to sign one piece like I had planned...

Any way to get Gene Kranz to make an appearance? You've got Jim, Freddo and Sy... Meeting Mr. Kranz would be a dream come true!

I'm stoked to finally have the ambition last year to start meeting the people I've read about and watched on TV who are true patriots and accomplished the impossible!

If you lived in the UK it would be much cheaper to fly! My car does 40mpg so it would be 80 gallons for the round trip and at around $9 a gallon.... $720 on fuel... OUCH!!

I admire your tenacity.

1600 miles from ANYWHERE in the UK would put you in the drink, or Europe.

1600 miles distance from the UK could get you into Africa... Cornwall to Morocco is under 1000 miles.

Or you could go the other direction, and go from London to Star City, outside Moscow, almost exactly 1600 miles.

Quite a road trip!

Borman's willing, but we're not going to try till April or so, to see how he and Susan feel. Frank will be 83 in March. Good thing is, Tucson is their home town, and they have a lot of old friends here.

Frank dropped out of the First Spacefest, and we'd like to make sure that doesn't happen again. It was painful.

Do you think Jack Schmitt has hung up the pen? I mean, do you think he will ever do another Autograph show or Mail in signing?

I can't help but wonder if Schmitt is being very careful to avoid doing anything that could create unwanted attention while he pursues political or public positions in the future. His recent nomination to the New Mexico Cabinet indicates that he is still interested in holding public office.

While he may not necessarily be restricted from doing paid signings, he may avoid doing them if he feels someone could possibly use it against him to generate negative publicity (however remote that possibility).

That's what we figured, too. He might also give up his speaking & teaching engagements. He also serves on several boards, such as ASF and NSS, which may time-conflict.

We've now sold 68% of our discounted room block for Spacefest.

The nearest hotel that can be used for our overflow is 3 miles away.

Heritage Auctions has designated this their SPRING 2011 Space Auction at Spacefest III. It would normally take place in April.
