It always seems that it's the small airports that look at you crosseyed. San Antonio even questioned the small MagLight that I carry in my briefcase - the kind that hold 2 AA batteries.I was thinking the same thing about lugging my LiOH cannister. I'm still thinking FedEx. |

Buzz Aldrin's fee has been posted... only a $20 base fee! I'm guessing: - They forgot to add two zeros.
- The "base fee" does not include an autograph but rather a quick glance from Aldrin.
- Buzz decided to lower his rate from his last public signing by 95%.
- Someone is just messing with us.
Come on No. 3! |

Interesting that when you click on the fee, the resulting fee grid has blanks for Buzz's fees. I'm thinking #4 is the most likely. Or add #5: someone made a mistake. On the other hand, Buzz could be hoping to increase his volume and offset the decrease in the fee. |

Gerry Griffin's fee is also posted. Maybe Buzz figured he could not charge more than the flight director or he would not be given another flight assignment. Wishful thinking but if that is his fee, I have half a dozen items at least I would like signed. I suspect a mistake. |

Is there any chance I might be able to have a friend on cS carry an 8x10 Skylab II photo for me if I can get the photo and payment to you in time? All I want is a single "Owen Garriott, Science PLT". I can get the other two myself through the mail. Garriott is difficult for me since I have no address or contact. jvertrees@paulo.com |

I am glad someone asked that question about Armstrong attending. When I read the email I thought I was seeing things. First I heard of it.

This is the last chance to reserve your SPACE at the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation's Apollo 12 40th Anniversary Gala...The event promises an unforgettable evening as astronauts Neil Armstrong, Alan Bean, Richard Gordon and Al Worden reminisce about this historic mission! |

Poor Buzz... he finally announces his fees and Armstrong still manages to show him up! Base fee is listed as "$350 and up" which sounds woefully ominous for anyone in the market. If Armstrong does go, and I hope he does, I think most people would be respectful and genuinely pleased to see him take part. |

I wonder if the mention of Armstrong in that e-mail could just be a mistake. Nowhere in the event website is there mention of Armstrong appearing. I looked elsewhere besides the autograph show page, of course- for example, at the bottom of the page about the dinner is a list of the astronauts and other guests attending. ASF put out an additional press release when cast members of STNG agreed to appear - I would think that if Armstrong really was appearing there would be more notice than this. But hey, maybe he is coming, and we're up to 137 reasons I wish I could go again this year! |

In response to my query, I was informed Neil Armstrong is NOT scheduled to participate in the VIP Photo Opportunity before the Apollo 12 ASF dinner. In any case, just to have him appear and speak at the dinner is exciting and should guarantee a sell-out. |

That's a good question. Unfortunately, it will probably have to be carefully managed or else he will be swallowed up in a crowd of humanity. |

It would be kind of cool if there was an ORDERLY receiving line at the dinner with him and a chance for a photo. But just the honor of having him there will be wonderful. But the honor is for Apollo 12, not 11. |

I am sure people will wish to get close to Armstrong for photos or just to say hello, but if last year's audience was an indicator, I thought most of those attending were very respectful of the astronauts and as a result there was a good opportunity for photos and conversation before and after diner. Hopefully it will be the same this year and all of the astronauts including Armstrong will feel comfortable enough to mix with the guests. |

Buzz signed for free for a while after Apollo 11. Afterwards, for a number of years, Buzz' fee was $100. I am happy I had several items signed then (e.g. Apollo 11 original flight plan, press kit, and lunar orbit map). I thought the price was high, but that was before the explosion in signing fees. People who want something personalized or a special item autographed (like the First Step print I had signed at SpaceFest) will be willing to pay the $350 or more. I'll pass this time. Will the "good Buzz" or "bad Buzz" appear at ASF? At the first SpaceFest he was charming and friendly; not so much at SpaceFest last February. One wonders what effect the presence of Neil Armstrong will have. Stay tuned. |

It sounds similar to the fee setup he used at Spacefest and the previous ASF show: $350 base fee $50 per word or mission inscription $600 for Apollo 11 completion If something is already signed by others (especially Armstrong or Collins) or is "multi-signable" (meaning other astronauts can be added later), expect him to charge $100-200 extra beyond the base fee. Friendly attitude not included. |

I'd wear my best cocktail dress, but then I'd have to shave my legs. I was really getting used to wearing "Wally Wear" to those banquets. I always felt a lot more comfortable at dinner. I think that I have the honor of getting the final free Buzz on something other than one of his books. He signed an artifact for me in about 2002. Bob Glass witnessed it and couldn't believe what he saw. Today, that signature charge would be closer to $500. |

Take it easy on Buzz. No one screamed louder than me when he raised his price to $350, but it's basic supply and demand. We furnish KSC with framed Aldrin 16x20s. They mark them up to $1000, and we still can't keep enough in stock. He'll be the busiest guy at ASF, even if his price was $500 (and it may be soon). Buzz has an unlimited reservoir of goodwill, as he is Apollo 11 and accessible. Friendly or surly, he holds the cards. |

That is an interesting, telling detail about the supply and demand. I am disappointed that he charges so much. I would love to have him add "Contact light" to a photo of Eagle on the moon already signed by him, and on which Charlie Duke wrote out the sentences of his first words spoken to people on the moon. But I can't pay $100 for two words. BUT I keep in mind that one of the very first autographs I obtained when I started collecting in 8th grade was a nice free Aldrin WSS - which he supplied, explaining in a letter that he had a policy of not signing the Apollo 11 postal cover I had mailed him. And that was 25 years after he was selected to be an astronaut and people by the thousands started asking for his autograph. OK, much more of this and we'll have to move this over to the "Signing Experience: Buzz Aldrin" thread in Autographs! |

collectSPACE will be an exhibitor at this year's show and I'm happy to say that Tim "KSCArtist" Gagnon will be joining our table, offering his commemorative patches. To compliment those, we will be bringing a complete vintage AB Emblem and Lion Brothers Apollo patch collection for sale, as well as some of the much rarer crew edition (e.g. Apollo 11 Biological Isolation Garment [BIG] and Apollo 12 variants) and recovery ship patches. For the first (and last) time, one of the 30 "Star Wars" patches we created for the STS-120 crew will be offered, though for the details as to how, you'll have to come by the collectSPACE table at the show. In addition I will have several hundred vintage NASA lithos and glossies, ranging from crew photos to individual portraits, as well as mission scenes. We'll have them generally sorted by program (i.e. Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, etc.) but otherwise it will be left to attendees to discover the treasures within. I'll have some artifacts for sale, and some new artifacts for display. Lastly, we'll have some new collectSPACE logo merchandise as well as taking pre-orders for soon to be coming apparel and collectibles. For those unable to be at the show, the collectSPACE table will also be our means of posting a steady stream of photos and perhaps even videos from the floor, to share the experience with all our members and readers. I look forward to seeing everyone next weekend! |

Bill Pogue is not attending but he's doing the Astronaut Encounter at KSCVC the week of Nov 15th. If anyone attending the ASF show is also going to KSCVC that week and could take a couple of items for me that would be great, as I don't want to ship signed books to and from across the pond. FWIW I did ask the ASF whether they could hold a couple of items after the show and secure Bill Pogue's signature for the appropriate fee but they declined. |

Call it "supply and demand" if you want. What Aldrin did at Spacefest was rooted in greed and I'm saddened to see it carry over to this week's show and likely all future events. |
