I have a globe of the moon I want to take, because I think it would look great signed and would be a nice piece to have in my home. I am curious to know if it is really that much more of a pain/difficulty to sign something like a globe or a model? I certainly wouldn't want to annoy an astronaut if I can possibly avoid it.

It won't annoy any of them to sign it...as they've all signed plenty of globes and models in the past. Just be prepared to pay extra for some astronauts to sign it.

I have one item which has a raised center and flat, wide borders. Astros have signed the flat borders and none of them have charged me a 3-D fee.

I have an Apollo 16 photo that I plan to have Charlie Duke sign at the upcoming ASF show. It's a close-up showing Charlie looking closely at a large rock. I know it was taken during EVA 3 at North Ray crater, but would like more context, such as a description of the area and if possible a description of the rock. Does anyone know where I can find this information?

Try the Apollo Lunar Surface Journal which offers complete mission reports and documentation with context and photos of all the Apollo Moon landing missions.

Thanks; should have looked there before I posted. I was able to determine that the rock Charlie is pointing to is Outhouse Rock, so I did a web search and found a wonderful geology paper giving me the info I was looking for, and more.

Is anyone planning a tour of KSC while you're there? Anyone want to hook up on one?

I've taken the KSC tour dozens and dozens of times and never tire of it. I'm going to try to get on the NASA up close tour on Friday afternoon, hoping that the Ares I-X has scrubbed a couple of times and I get to see both on the pad. First time of wishful thinking for a scrub. Maybe do the other tour on Sunday.

Tracy, I completely agree. It is the best money you could ever spend down at the Cape. A true bargain for the extra access.
I booked the Up Close tour for 10AM on Friday which should get me back to the KSCVC by 12-1230 in time for the Apollo 13 lunch that day.

Actually booked us for the middle of the day on Saturday when I'll need a break from the autograph show. For the first time in years, it will be SO nice to be there as a tourist and not a worker.
Plan to do some serious imbibing while there. But what else is new?

10am on Friday. I MAY be rolling out of bed at that hour - MAYBE. Sounds like a room service type of morning. Then meander over to KSCVC in time for lunch.

From being a show guest since 2003, I have seen firsthand how hard you worked as a volunteer. Soak it all in this time as you deserve it!
Regarding my early tour... I never seem to sleep well during these trips. I think my brain is in vacation overdrive the whole time so I usually roll out of bed early anyways to hit up Dunkin Donuts for my daily ritualistic giant coffee and bagel. 10AM is LATE for me brother!!!

Unfortunately, Ares I-X has only October 27 and 28 to launch and then it will be rolled back into the Vehicle Assembly Building to await its next window (date to be decided by range availability due to STS-129, Atlas V and Delta IV launches).

It just won't be the same without Uncle Bill. I just enjoy hearing his shtick every year. Awwwww.....
I guess the couple who was there in their Star Trek uniforms two years ago will be happy.

Astronaut Scholarship Foundation release
Star Trek's Next Generation Cast Embarks on Astronaut Autograph Show
"Star Trek: The Next Generation" cast will teleport to the already stellar line-up of celebrity astronauts at the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation's (ASF) Astronaut Autograph and Memorabilia Show at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, FL on November 7 - 8, 2009.
Joining the autograph show's roster of more than 25 hero astronauts, such as Apollo 11's Buzz Aldrin and Apollo 13's Jim Lovell, are Starfleet Officers LeVar Burton (Lt. Commander Geordi La Forge), Michael Dorn (Lieutenant Worf), Jonathan Frakes (Commander William T. Riker) and Marina Sirtis (Counselor Deanna Troi).
Never before have this many astronauts and Sci-Fi figures gathered in one place for an autograph show! The weekend promises guests photo opportunities, autograph sessions, space simulator rides with astronauts and celebrities, as well as special dining opportunities and much more!
Show-goers may bring their own items to be signed or may purchase items at the show. Ticket packages range from $100 to $1,000 and are now available by visiting www.AstronautScholarship.org or calling 321-455-7014. Autographs are an additional fee. SPACE is limited!
Ticket proceeds benefit the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation, a non-profit organization which provides scholarships to college students who exhibit motivation, imagination and exceptional performance in the science or engineering field of their major. The Foundation funds nineteen $10,000 scholarships annually and has awarded $2.8 million nationwide. For more information, visit AstronautScholarship.org or call 321-455-7012.

Now watch it there John. I've got my phaser set on stun... but it has other settings too!
The inclusion of the actors shouldn't create too much more traffic. Bob May, Warren Stevens, Richard Kiel, Bill Daily, Gary Lockwood and Keir Dullea were all at the UACC Burbank show a few years ago and because there were no lines at all at their tables I got to spend a lot of time speaking with them all. Lockwood, Dullea and Richard Hatch appeared at Spacefest last February. Again, no lines at all.
I say the more the merrier regarding the actors. They all have some very interesting stories to tell, especially Lockwood and Dullea.

I had the most delightful conversation with Richard Keil and his wife in Burbank. Keir Dullea and Gary Lockwood were also wonderful during their appearances. As long as Leon Spinks doesn't show up again...
I'm still angry with myself for not buying the action figure from Richard Keil from his alien role in "To Serve Man".
I had spent so much money at that show - but kicked myself all the way home for not having a fun signed collectors item.

Star Trek's Nichelle Nichols was also at the Burbank show. And LeVar Burton was also at Spacefest. They are always fun characters with great stories, and I am looking forward to this ASF event even more now.

I wouldn't worry about them attracting huge numbers of non space enthusiasts. They are all great people to meet but also regulars on the convention circuit so I can't see masses coming out especially to meet them.

So is Michael Dorn going to be at the show? He's mentioned with the other actors in the ASF release Robert posted but not included on the ASF site.

I wouldn't be surprised if the actors drew more attention than the real thing. LeVar Burton drew a lot of attention at SPACEFEST.
Their autographs are cheaper, and they are more recognizable. Hopefully having both camps will be a revelation to EVERYONE. I expect even the Star Trek cast will be agog.

Here's more on Gerry from Wikipedia:
Gerald D. "Gerry" Griffin (born 1934) is a former a NASA flight director and director of Johnson Space Center.
Born in Athens, Texas, Griffin attended Texas A&M University, where he studied aeronautical engineering. He joined NASA in 1960 and became a flight controller, specializing in guidance and navigation systems. In 1967 he became a flight director. He was lead flight director for Apollo 12, Apollo 15 and Apollo 17, as well as playing an important role in the resolution of the Apollo 13 crisis.
From August 1982 until January 1986, Griffin served as director of the Johnson Space Center.
Appropriate items for autographs might be photos (or covers) from Apollo flights 12, 13,15, and 17. Since the ASF show this year is commemorating the 40th anniversary of Apollo 12, photos of the Apollo 12 launch might be a good idea (I especially like the photo showing the lightning strike).
Here's an informative clip about the lightning strike, including interviews with Gerry, Al Bean and EECOM John Aaron, who saved the mission:

Michael Dorn has not been confirmed yet; because of the close working relationship collectSPACE enjoys with the ASF, I sometimes receive their press releases before they are issued, which was the case in this situation. When I saw the mention of the Star Trek actors posted here, I thought the release was good to go, which was not the situation.
I apologize for the confusion.
Separate from the above, the ASF has shared that while Jonathan Frakes had provisionally indicated that he could attend, he soon after realized that a family commitment would preclude his participation, so he will not be joining the show.

Billy Watkins' excellent book "Apollo Moon Missions - the Unsung Heroes" has a chapter on Gerry Griffin. The Forward is written by Fred Haise, so a chance to get two autographs!

I will be happy to bring along some Griffin 8x10's for signing. Just look for the Retro Space Images booth. I will also be selling image discs and sharing a table with Donnis Willis of Lunar Legacies.
