I said the same thing...but its tough. All those astronauts just sitting there waiting to sign something is just so tempting. Once I got there I ended up spending double my budget. Fortunately I am really after Stafford, Cernan, Schweikart and Gordon and perhaps a couple of others, but that's it. |

I already posted a warning to the 2008 ASF show discussion, but figured I would echo it here, since it might affect people staying at the Radisson (the host hotel for the ASF show) for the 2009 event who booked early on.I got a letter from Radisson saying that there was a security breach in their system and people who made a credit card purchase with Radisson between November 2008 and May 2009 might have had their card information stolen. Shortly after receiving the letter, I was notified of unauthorized purchases that were attempted using the card I had on file with the Radisson for the 2008 show. At least one other CS-er has reported finding unauthorized charges on his card too. If you booked a room at the Radisson in Port Canaveral for the 2009 ASF show prior to June 2009, you might want to keep a close eye for suspicious activity on your credit card. |

Yup - my card (used there in November 2008) was cancelled by my bank due to "fraudulent activity" - but no communication from the Radisson however... |

Because I'm a procrastinator, I'm in a bind... the hotel's booked (and I know, I know, I should have booked it the second I confirmed my ticket) but...Anyone need a roommate to help pay for the hotel room? |

Sarah, the same thing happened to me last year. I'd suggest calling the hotel every few days. With more than a month to go, some more rooms opened up and I got in at the low rate. |

Thank you for remember the Sims/Hankow events (lol). Very interesting thread. Have plenty of my own experience in these matters.... ------------------ Steve Hankow http://www.farthestreaches.com |

Any rumors as to whether the ASF will be adding any more names to the astronaut list and who they might be? Just curious. |

Now that we are almost only one month away, I have a question: the chart of fees shows all of the astronauts having $0 for extra fees. Is this likely to hold true at the event? I am asking because I have a 3D item I would like to bring, but I don't want to get there and be surprised. Any help is appreciated! |

I am looking for some help concerning the ASF show. I have an item I would love to get signed by Lovell. There is still a chance I will be in Florida for the show but that depends on whether I will have to cover the launch of STS-129 and the actual launch date. So because I can not say for sure that I will be in Florida at the time of the show I am looking for someone who would be willing to help me. PLEASE contact me via e-mail. Of course I will cover all expenses and if wished I would be willing to pay a small extra amount for the help. |

I've not studied the fees, but remember that 3-D items are always THE most expensive. |

I know, that's why I'm asking, hoping maybe someone who went last year could help. The fee chart on the ASF site doesn't show an extra fee for 3D items. So either it isn't happening or I'll get a nice surprise in Florida.

Perhaps that is a question best answered by contacting the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation directly? Their staff could certainly confirm the fee structures and whether their website is up-to-date. |

Not having lost my senses, that was my next step. However, because I usually find most people around here to be so helpful and full of info, I wanted to try here first. It's definitely useful, in my opinion, to hear from people who have been to a show previously. |

Sure, past experiences are helpful to share. My suggestion to contact the ASF was not to say that it wasn't something you wouldn't have arrived at by yourself, but because past experience has shown that no matter what has transpired at past shows, when it comes to questions surrounding the fees, only the show organizer can answer what will happen. |

I'll be travelling over to the ASF Show in November. Can anyone tell me the best way of getting from Orlando Airport to Cape Canaveral since I'm a non-driver? Is there a public Shuttle bus from the Airport or do I go for a one of the private-hire Shuttles? Can anyone recommend any of these? |

Last year I took a shuttle bus, which had to be arranged ahead of time but was cheaper than a cab. (If memory serves, it was about $30 each way.) I called the hotel to get some recommendations, called the guy to get specifics of when and where he'd pick me up at the airport (including what his little bus looked like), and there he was. I was his only passenger, and we had a nice talk about the area.If you go by this route, be sure to get their office and cell numbers, in case you need to make changes during the trip. (I decided to leave at a different time.) |

I have not, but my receipt from when I got my ticket in February says that "a final, detailed confirmation will be sent in early October via email." So I'm hopeful that will be showing up maybe this coming week, and will have the information about choosing seating preferences.(Of course, I still have NO idea what seating preference I want to choose...hard choice! Anyone else equally indecisive?) |

Last year we tried to get cS'ers together during the show, but only a hand full showed up at the rocket garden where we planned to meet. Unfortunately Robert could not make last year's show, but perhaps if he'll be there this year we'll get a larger gathering. So I'll propose we meet in the rocket garden at 2:00 PM Sat afternoon. Some of my best memories from last year's show was meeting fellow cS'ers. |

I was wondering if Francis French or Colin Burgess will be at this year's show?Last year Francis and Dee O'Hara were nice enough to sign my copy of 'In the Shadow of the Moon' and I would like to have my copy of "Into That Silent Sea" signed, but do not want to bring it if Francis or Colin are not attending. |

I will not be able to go to the show and I have a room at the Raddison. If anybody needs a room for $99 a nite for Thursday and Friday night, instead of cancelling, I would rather give it to a fellow collectSPACE member. Do send me an email but I would need two items signed. |

Thank you for asking - I will indeed be there, and delighted to sign copies of our books. I'll be assisting Dee O'Hara once again, as I do every year (nurse's orders). It probably goes without saying, but of course I sign the books for free. Thanks! |

I have an 8x10 of Jim Lovell that I would really like to get signed at the ASF show. Would anyone like to earn a $20 for getting the autograph for me? On edit: Thanks everyone. I think I have it covered! |

Francis - they're letting you in AGAIN? You think they would have learned by now.I will have the great pleasure of giving Dee a lift to and from the airport. We get to chit-chat and gossip both ways. Should be fun. Two years ago, I was able to drive Uncle Bill back to Orlando. It was the funniest hour of my life. I wish he was coming this year. Won't be the same without him. As for the hotel, check daily with them for rooms. I wanted an upgrade which I was told would be impossible. Daily phone calls made it possible. I'd alternate between calling the 800# and the property itself. It's going to be fun to actually attend as a tourist this year and not have Steve cracking the whip as he's done for so many years. No more being there at 5am and also being the last to leave every night. What a difference. |

Richard Mullane has been removed from the website. At this rate there won't be any Astronauts at the show. It sure would be nice for a change to see an Astronaut added instead of removed. |

It's not that that I'm complaining it's just that for those of us that have been to a lot of the Astronaut autograph shows here in the US it's seems to always be the same Astronauts at every show. It's when they add Astronauts that have never been to these shows before that gets me excited to go. This year when the ASF first put up their list of Astronauts attending the show in November it had I think 7 Astronauts that have never been to an autograph show before. Now it is down to 2 with a month to go. How many more will be removed before then? In my opinion the ASF should not put Astronauts on their website as attending until they know for sure they will be there. It's just a little disappointing and frustrating to see those names up then to watch them slowly be removed. |

There are still three spaces left on the web site, maybe they will fill them.More is better, but its a solid line up. My credit card will only stretch so far anyway. Does anyone know if they are using the credit card system at each desk like last year?
