Hi, I'm new here...Well, I have my Platinum Plus ticket. I'm going by myself; I won't know a soul there; and I don't even collect autographs or anything (although I will probably get a couple). But the other events apart from the autograph sessions just sounded too cool! So I guess I will see some of you there. |

If it's anywhere near as fun as Spacefest, you'll be happy you went! You'll leave with a lot of new friends - hopefully me and my wife included. |

I'm not going this year but enjoying the events (with and without the astronauts) and meeting fellow enthusiasts were definitely my favorite aspects of last year's show. Have a fantastic time! |

Not a reply, but a question!I hope to visit the show in November, but I'm not a driver (got a licence but haven't driven for years). Can anyone please advise on the best way to get from Orlando Airport across to the Cape - Taxi, Shuttle bus, or what? |

Shuttle bus is going to your most economic solution. Orlando International Airport has a directory of shuttle bus services, and you'll want to look at "Service Zone 2: Brevard County & The Beaches". |

Neke - Glad to hear that you'll be joining us. Last year was my first time and, like you, I didn't know a soul! I can tell you right now that everyone there is terrific, both the astronauts and your fellow guests. Just to give you an idea of how amazing everyone is, I can tell you that several of the people I met there (not to mention several fellow cSers that I've never gotten to meet in person) read my post under Free Space for help with my High School Space Day Celebration, and you would not believe the support, encouragement, and response. I had expected that meeting the astronauts would be the highlight of my weekend, but I found that meeting fellow enthusiasts was an added bonus I hadn't expected. Also, the ASF folks are absolutely amazing - even with all the work they do before, during, and after, they are still friendly, helpful, and just lots of fun to be around. By the end of the weekend, I left feeling like I had several new friends, and even some new extended "family." See you in November! |

If anyone wants to relive last year's show, they can check out my article in this month's autograph magazine. (You can read it online or pick up a copy at your local bookstore.) It was a great time. Looking forward to seeing everyone this year in November as well. |

I just read it - great article! You really managed to capture all of the sights and feelings of the weekend. I had a Gold Pass last year, so I didn't get to experience everything, but stories like yours help to let the rest of us share in the fun. Thanks for sharing!!! |

Can anyone tell me if Gene Kranz has ever or would ever do one of the ASF shows? I think there is little doubt that even if he does not sign; many of us with an interest in space flight would love to see him there, if just to shake his hand. As this year’s show seems to revolve around the Apollo 13 theme, and that fact that he played such a key roll in that flight and also the Apollo 11 landing (and many other flights), I would think he would be a VERY special guest. I would love to see him and some of the other controllers attend. I would say Sy Liebergot and some of the other mission control guys would fit right into this years (or any other) show. |

With regard to your question - Gene Kranz did an autograph show in KSC in 2007 in the Debus Centre. It was run by Sims and Hankow and the tickets were issued at the Holiday Inn, Cocoa Beach. Several cS members attended, plus many astronauts from the Apollo era to the Shuttle guys were there. We were told that this was to be his last apperance at any more shows, as Steve Hankow and Nolan Sims got this show together, which included top names. The Astronaut Scholarship Foundation had a table. So after that show the ASF put on their own for Nov. 2008 and next Nov. 2009. We were very lucky to see Gene and his wife. |

An early plea for help. It is unlikely I can make the ASF show this year but would really appreciate help getting items signed. Please let me know off-list if you'd be willing to take care of my items. They'd all be meticulously prepared, pre-funded and Fedex return postage via my account. I'd be willing to consider an "arrangement fee". |

Although he's not (yet?) listed on the ASF website, a brief article about the upcoming show in the August 2009 issue of Autograph magazine notes that, "[a]mong the astronauts participating will be... Buzz Aldrin, the second man to walk on the moon." |

Am I reading correctly that General Stafford will be participating in the public signing portion of the show this year?I know he has previously attended for the dinner and meet and greet portions of the weekend. I am hoping the success of his recent private signing might encourage him to do the public sit down signing also. Would be wonderful to actually get an autograph and a picture with my children. Anyone know? |

All part of "the business of Buzz" (see his book Magnificent Desolation). After all those years of signing for free, I figure if he can get it, then why not? |

Now we have a moonwalker from each Apollo moonlanding PLUS Lovell and Haise. Not too shabby. So, there are reps from every Apollo and Skylab mission. |

The costs have not been posted yet, and if last year was any indication, likely will not be for some time. You may wish to check the thread from last years show to get an idea of what some of the astronauts will charge.Best prices for moonwalkers is usually Charlie Duke, Ed Mitchell and Alan Bean (around $75 to $120). Most expensive on the list so fare is likely to be Tom Stafford and Buzz Aldrin ($250-$350). The Skylab and Shuttle guys are more affordable ($25-70). But there are people on this web with more experience than I who can tell you better. I am just going by what I remember of last years show prices. Charlie Bolden was the best deal last year at $25. But unfortunately his new job prohibits him attending. |

I am eager to hear what Buzz's fee will be. I have no intentions of paying it, but I'm curious. After Spacefest (where it was $350), I believe Kim mentioned that Buzz had intended to make the fee even higher but eventually did not do so. So I'll be very curious to see what transpires.I believe the ASF site says somewhere that the fees will be posted at least a month before the event and since the summer is rapidly getting away from us, that shouldn't be too far off. |

I am curious as well. I don't know if anyone's noticed, but Buzz does have autographed photos available on his website now, and the price is $350.00. |

I do not really want to get into the Buzz Aldrin fees controversy. I simply will not pay that much. I was a little surprised when he increased his fees so much last year.He was in Toronto in August 2008 and I paid $230 Canadian. At the time the Canadian dollar was nearly par with U.S. and that price included a photo op with Aldrin, an hour lecture by Aldrin and the organizers provided the 11x8 photo he signed. At $350 USD the exchange rate puts it to $400 dollars Canadian. Since I already have his signature I am not worried, but it is well beyond what I will pay. I suspect he would attract more people with lower fees. Then again at last years ASF show Dave Scott was signing for $150 USD and he was not really busy. Jim Lovell on the other hand was really busy and he was charging $150. Who can say? All I really know is I am counting the days to this years show. |

Dave Scott can regularly be purchased for $75, which always makes me wonder why he charged double at the shows.I think that Buzz's autograph at the KSC gift shop is $1000. Naval Aviation in Space is currently sitting at $12,000 at KSC, too. Those that offer autographs through their web sites can give you a good idea what they'll charge in FL. Lovell and Haise aren't as easy to find as they used to be. But, as for the autograph shows, YOU have the choice of paying the fee or not. As much as people tend to complain, no one is forcing your hand. We all heard about Buzz's sliding scale at the last show. At the same time, there are some that charge by the word. It adds up. But, as always, it's YOUR choice. I'm just glad that I got a lot of these autographs years ago when they were free or a lot cheaper. But NOTHING beats the experience of meeting the astronauts in person. |

I think you hit the nail on the head right there. People aren't paying $350 or more for Aldrin's signature -- they could find it cheaper elsewhere. They are paying for the experience, and there are enough people who are willing to pay for the opportunity. ------------------ John Capobianco Camden DE |
