Buzz Aldrin will be at the FanExpo in Toronto, Canada, Aug. 22-24, 2008. I got this flyer in the mail today... hobbystar.com gave me permission to post it here. Are these good prices for Buzz signed stuff?

Is anyone going to this? I am new to the Astronaut autograph game but from what I gather reading on the web the rates are pretty good. Could someone advise? |

Last year Aldrin charged $175 for an in person signature. You would have to decide if the extra money is worth hearing a presentation and having a photo of the two of you. The down side of this arrangement is that it sounds like you would only be able to get one of there two photos signed and you would not be able to bring one in that you might have preferred.I don't think Aldrin goes up to Canada for many signings so it might be a good chance to do something like this with someone that walked on the moon. |

RMH thank you for your reply. I am sort of in a hard spot (with my wife that is). On the one hand I would like to get Buzz Aldrin's autograph and have my photo taken. The price seems ok. I have not often heard of him coming to Canada. But I agree it seems you cannot have items of choice signed. I am seriously considering heading to Florida in November for the Astronauts Scholarship Fund show and I understand Dr. Aldrin will be there as well. Meanwhile Michael Collins is doing the Novaspace signing in June and I understand he rarely does signings any more. Decisions Decisions... wait until my wife finds out I want to do all three. |

One thing is for certain...there is nothing "ultra rare" about Aldrin's autograph, as the advertisement claims. It's not even medium rare...more like well done. As for it being a "once in a lifetime" opportunity, I guess they neglected to consider his upcoming signings at Spacefest and the ASF Autograph show...not to mention the dozens of in person signings he's done over the past decade. It's not even a "once in a year" opportunity. |

mjanovec I agree with you about Aldrins autograph. Still I would like to have it, and for me it is fairly close to home. That being said it may be wiser try and get Collins autograph from the Novaspace auction and then make it down to the Astronauts Scholarship Fund Auction at KSC. I know Aldrin is going to be there amongst others whose autograph i wish to obtain. We are going down for the shuttle launch 31 May (and Disney of course), but my wife and daughter love Disney, so I can always play that card to keep them busy in November while I do the show.It may be money better spent.

My criticisms were aimed squarely at the hype on the advertising poster. If the event is close to home, you want his autograph, and want a photo taken with Buzz, I would have no criticism for you attending. If I didn't have Buzz's autograph and wanted to meet him for the first time, I might consider the $219 package myself. |

Does the ultra rare autograph perhaps relate to the "limited edition" photo they have available to sign? I guess if they have some sort of special thing you can't get anywhere else then it does sort of become a rare item even if the autograph as such isn't! |

Hi mjanovec. I never for a moment took anything you said as a criticism. No worries there. It seemed you were making an observation, one that for the most part I agree with. I am fairly new to the astronaut autograph game, so any observations by experienced collectors is appreciated. I would like Aldrin's autograph and the show is closer to home. I just have to make the decision. I appreciate your feed back |

If you can only do one, I would recommend that you meet Aldrin and get his autograph over having Collins sign something through the mail.Buzz is a moonwalker and while his autograph is common I personally would rather have it in my collection over Collins. Mike

The advertisement shows the two photo options near the bottom...the visor shot and the flag salute. Both are very common images Buzz has signed before. |

Note that Novaspace also keeps a stock of Collins signed photos on hand (of the more popular images). So if you decide to get Buzz now, you can still pick up one of the Collins autographs later. |

Hey mjanovec I think thats what I am going to do, as you suggest and purchase Collins autgraph at a later date from Novaspace. We are also seriously considering going the the ASF show in November and I understand Aldrin will be there as well, but I might as well get his when he is closer to come. |

I went to buy a ticket for this and was surprised to find my wife telling me not to. When I pressed her on the issue as to why she caved in and told me she had bought it for me for fathers day. She figures its cheaper than my other hobby (sail planes). |

I just wanted to give a heads up on tonight's autograph signing with Buzz Aldrin. It took place here in Toronto at FanExpo. FanExpo is a huge show for B movie, cartoon, comic book horror and sci-fi junkies. The show had many minor celebs from B films and TV shows.I am not a fan of schlock horror, comics, B films and the rest but I did not pick the venue, I just went to see Buzz Aldrin. I am glad to say that Aldrin drew the largest crowd. He was signing between 8pm and 9pm and; I would guess drew over 250 people. Included in the people standing in line was Horror film Writer/Director/Product Wes Craven, who was there to sign autographs himself, but when he found Buzz Aldrin was signing and doing photo ops, paid his money and stood in line with the rest of us. He stood behind me, and while I can tell you I have never been able to sit through one of his films, he is one of the nicest 'Celebes' I have ever met. I wish I could tell you more about Buzz Aldrin. He was 'protected' it seemed by several of the show organizers who wanted to keep the line moving. So the opportunity to talk to him was simply not there. The show itself was a little unorganized, but that was not Buzz Aldrins fault. They offered the standard photos of him saluting the flag or the famous photo Neil Armstrong took of him him with Armstrong reflected in the visor. I may be naive but I found out too late that that we could bring our own items for signing, and had I known I would have brought my copy of the Apollo 11 Mission report. However I took the standard photo, said hello and he signed. Later we had an opportunity for the photo op. I was fortunate that the photographer was adjusting the camera and I had a moment to ask if he was still planning on attending the Astronaut Scholarship Fund Show in November and he nodded and said he was. They took our photo, I said I would see him there and that was that. The price of the photo ticket includes a presentation Buzz Aldrin is conducting tomorrow, which I will attend and let you know how it was. In the brief moment I had to speak to Mr Aldrin, he seemed nice. The venue, with the horror show, comic book memorabilia would not have been my choice. But then, we don't have too many moonwalkers come to Toronto and I was there to see Buzz Aldrin So on that score, it was worth it. |

I returned see Buzz Aldrin's seminar yesterday at Fan Expo. He talked about his own career and then spoke a little on the future of the space program. It was a good lecture, but just as it was touching upon the future of the program, they sponsors cut him off to carry out his second autograph session, which was to bad.In any case Aldrin made it clear he does not like the idea of the Ares launch system. His view is that the development of two boosters is going to cost more than it is worth if the went with a one booster system similar to the Jupiter system that has been talked about. In any case, it was great to see Buzz Aldrin and I was glad to have attended. |
