Hi Guys, re-meeting, any day will suit, most of you know me, so just come up and introduce yourselves.Need a lift? Can help with that. To and from KSC or the hotel. The rocket garden is ideal. See you all there-someday. regards from Brenda |

Good point, Paul! Perhaps meet in the rocket garden (or near the CS table) at 4pm on Friday, then meet up again at the Radisson at 6:00 when KSC has closed (for those who are thirsty). That way, those who aren't going anyway near the Radisson that night can partake in a meeting and group photo. (Maybe we can talk Robert into making little CS pinback buttons, for a nominal fee of course, so it's easy to identify who the other CSers are at the show.) |

Well, it looks like there is a consensus that 4 p.m. at the KSC Rocket Garden would be the best time and place for CollectSPACE members to meet and chat. And then those who would like to can head over to the Radisson for a drink or three. Sounds great! One possible complication is that I read on the Rocket Garden website "Free tours of the Rocket Garden are given at 10:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. daily." Hopefully cS members will be able to go on another tour (probably on Sunday) and hopefully it won't be crazy crowded at 4. Let's meet near the CM of the sideways Saturn rocket, since the tour group will probably start on the other end near the Redstone. Steve |

Over the last weeks I had to (unfortunately) realize that I will not be able to afford the trip to the states this year and so I will be missing the show. Real bad because I will also be unable to make it to Autographica. Is there anyone who would be willing to help me to obtain 2 or 3 autographs at the show? PLEASE contact me off list. Regards, Stefan |

As Stephan (Contra) mentionned earlier, I will take care of one signing for him during the show.I am quite glad to do this, as I don't much collect autographs -- I collect memories, as my signature below makes clear! So having autographs to take care of for others is a plus for me as I enjoy the ensuing conversation. So if others need me to do this, please contact me offlist. I'll get a picture taken, and document the conversation to be had. ------------------ François Guay Collector of litterature, notebooks, equipment and memories! |

Two slots left on the ASF guest board. We can only hope they add Harrison Schmitt or John Young or both... that would leave one of the living moon works out... wishful thinking I know.

Could anyone recommend quotations by some of the show's attendees? Especially some of the maybe less-often quoted astronauts (Walt Cunningham, Richard Gordon, Al Worden). Thanks in advance. |

Last year at the KSC Sims/Hankow show, Lovell charged the same (IIRC), but he charged half of that to sign his book. If anyone would like to get his book signed, it might be worth your while to bring your copy along just in case he does this again.------------------ John Capobianco Camden DE |

A reduced rate to sign his book would be popular with all collectors I think, certainly I'd get my unsigned copy personalized to me. At Autographica last year the lady handling his money said the cost for signing his book would be the same as on a photo £75/$150 (exchange rate at the time!). |

What is the best/quickest way to travel from the host hotel (the Radisson) to the KSC visitor's center? Is SR3 open for public travel between Cape Canaveral and KSC? Or does all visitor traffic to KSC have to come in from the west on SR405? If the later is true, then is I-95 or Highway 1 the best option for traveling from the south to 405? |

I used the SR 3 whilst there in May\June 08. It is the quickest way from the Radisson at the Port, which is opposite McDonalds by the way.The A1A coming from the south, just curves left into the 528 beeline - you will see the sign for SR3 - right hand fork - then just follow the signs to KSC - it is clearly marked. If you need maps - I have plenty. Hope this helps, from Brenda |

Thanks! I have the maps...I just didn't know if SR3 was open to visitor traffic all the way to KSC. After looking over an aerial photo it appears the main checkpoint for KSC is to the east of the visitors center. |

I saw on a couple of websites that the STS-126 launch has been moved to 11/16. Is this outdated, or a new push-back? If this is the new date, I am really disappointed and the following is moot since I can't stay that long after the ASF show. If, however, the launch is scheduled for a few days after the end of the ASF show, I would greatly appreciate some help for a first-time launch viewer.I have pasted below what looks like reliable information for how to view a shuttle launch. It would be wonderful if a knowledgeable person could give it a look-over and let me know if it looks good. It looks like the annual pass I got with my tickets will do me no good on launch day. True? Is there any information unique to STS-126 that I should know about as I hope to view the launch? Thank you very much. Steve NASA has decreed that the KSC Visitors Complex, run by the Delaware North company, can bus a certain amount of visitors (2000-5000 per launch) to the causeway for a fee. Passes are sold to visitors by the Kennedy Space Center Visitors Complex for (current price) $51 per person ($41 age 11 and under), on the internet and by phone beginning several (4-6) weeks before launch. You can sign up on their website to receive an email to let you know when they will go on sale, which is usually a weekday morning at 9am. Tickets to the causeway are usually sold out in a matter of minutes. Note: the NASA causeway tickets are specifically labeled as Launch Transportation Tickets (LTT) and/or Launch Viewing Transportation, so look for those. |

The STS-126 launch was moved on September 24 to November 16 at 7:07 p.m. EST. At present, that is where the date stands. There is some discussion of moving it back two days to November 14, given that STS-125 will likely slip into next year. A decision is expected by the end of next week.It is not likely to move much earlier as the crew needs the time to train and the payload needs time to be prepared. Regarding shuttle launch viewing, my best advice is to see Ben Cooper's website (which I think may be the source of the excerpt you posted). |

I’m taking my wife and 7 year old daughter to do Disney the week of the Teacher’s Convention (November 3-7) and considering attending the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation's Autograph and Memorabilia Show 2008. I thought it would be great to meet the various astronauts and also let my daughter see the Saturn V rocket on display as well as the Shuttles on the launch pads. I have a few questions related to the autograph show which I am hoping I can have answered.I am the proud owner of the Spaceflori presentation "Apollo 15 lunar dust from Hadley Apennine." Will I be able to get Dave Scott to sign this display? (I know he would not at the Novaspace event but was wondering if things would be different at this event). If so, I was thinking of having him use a gold pen as it would complement the border around the moon dust sample as well as the foil of the Lunar Lander. I thought placement would be in the lower left corner below his photo as there is a blank area and it would balance the image of the temporary stowage bag on the opposite side. I was unsure if I should ask for just a name or also get CDR, Commander and/or Apollo 15. I would welcome any suggestions or ideas. Are gold pen signatures neat or would I better off with a sharpie or pen? Would the signature add to the interest of the display (I think it would) or would it be a distraction? Would such signature affect the value of the presentation (I am not planning on selling it but it is still good to know) – I would think it would add to it but maybe it decreases it – equivalent to using non-original parts on a vintage car. I have a copy of an August 5, 1969 Detroit News newspaper with the headline "Full Color Moon Photos!" featuring Buzz Aldrin with the flag with his face looking towards the camera. It is signed in the upper left corner by Neil Armstrong. I have previously posted images of this autograph to collectSPACE and the consensus was it is authentic. As to the provenance – here is what I was told: A Mrs. Nestor purchased the newspaper while attending the annual Mountain State Forest Festival in Elkins, West Virginia in October 1969. Neil Armstrong was the Grand Marshall for the Grand Feature Parade. During this parade Mrs. Nestor went up to the car that Neil was in and asked for the autograph. As she reached the paper to him a Secret Service agent grabbed her arm. Neil Armstrong accepted the paper and signed it for her. She did not talk to him because she did not want to push her luck. Mrs. Nestor has always lived in West Virginia and is the mother of Kelley Nestor from whom this item was purchased. I was considering asking Buzz Aldrin to sign this on the opposite side of where Neil Armstrong signed it. Does anyone have a guess what it will cost to get this signed – prices still have not been posted yet. Would getting this item be a mistake? I thought it would be great to have it signed by the man who the photo is. However I wonder if I should be keeping the newspaper as is? If I did get it signed should I have it done in a black pen like what was used by Neil Armstrong or should I have him use a Sharpie or something else? I would greatly appreciate any advice, opinions or information on the above questions. Thanks! Mike |

The policy of not signing the moondust presentation might be Dave Scott's policy, not Novaspace's policy. There is certainly nothing wrong with asking Scott, but don't be too surprised if he refuses to sign it. Scott also seems to frequently change his signing criteria. One day he'll do inscriptions. The next day he won't. So you can't be certain unless you ask. Just have a "Plan B" in mind in case you really need Scott's signature, like framing the moondust presentation with a signed photo of Scott. quote: Originally posted by birds-or-shells: Does anyone have a guess what it will cost to get this signed – prices still have not been posted yet. Assuming the Armstrong signature is authentic, I would say "go for it" if it's something you really want Aldrin to sign and you can afford the fee. Buzz will likely charge more than his usual base fee since Neil has already signed it. You might expect a fee in the $400-700 range from Buzz. Nobody is quite sure what his fees will be...and he might have special fees for certain items that might not be outlined at the ASF website (when they finally do post his fee). As for pen type, I would go for a pen that is similar to what Armstrong used. I would most certainly avoid using a sharpie or any other felt tip pen, as the ink could easily bleed into the newspaper, causing a very ugly looking result. Stick with a ballpoint pen. And test the pen out on newsprint paper first before getting it signed, just to make sure it's not a bleeder. |
