...nor will it change (at least not as expected). NASA managers decided today to keep STS-125 on Oct. 8, thus STS-126 remains scheduled (as of now) for Nov. 10. |

Ted and myself are off to Florida for this event, bought 2 dinner tickets only from Jennifer at the ASF, as we still have annual passes to KSC with going twice a year. Renting a beach condo next to Jetty Park in the cape. Hope to meet up with collectSPACE members - from the UK and USA - plus so many friends from past visits to KSC.Have not posted in a long while owing to family problems, and health reasons, things have sorted themselves out finally. regards from Brenda- on the IOM |

Robert,Per your "(as of now)", is there still a chance the launch of STS-126 may be moved up? Rob |

I suspect Robert's "as of now" was referring the more likely possibility that the launch schedule could slip to a later date instead of being moved up. Also, the factor that would seem to prevent STS-126 from being moved up is the fact that STS-125 is not being moved up...keeping in mind the time it takes to prepare the pad for the next launch. |

Indeed it was, Mark. In addition, managers specifically ruled out moving STS-126 to an earlier date in consideration for the crew. To quote Spaceflight Now: The problem for Endeavour's flight was crew training. A tropical storm recently forced NASA to shut down the Johnson Space Center and Endeavour's crew lost valuable training time that could not be made up without violating work load guidelines. And so, the shuttle program decided to stick with the original Oct. 8 and Nov. 10 launch dates. |

In fact, the advertised list includes at least one crew-member from every mission to fly the Apollo spacecraft: from Apollo 7 through Skylab and ASTP. This happened last year at the KSC show in June, 2007, culminating in the amazing dinner under the Saturn V. I thought it could never happen again. I won't be able to go in November, but I hope everything works out. There are several key individuals whose absence (let's say through illness) breaks the chain. If you weren't there last year, move mountains to go this year. You might not get the chance again. |

They added the base fee to some of the Astronauts below their pictures. So far the prices shown are about normal and not increased because of the charity factor.Mark |

Hey everyone, it's been a little while since I posted much of anything so I thought that it was time to get something going. I'm curious about what some of you are thinking about bringing to the show to have signed. Personally I'm hoping to get several pieces in my collection signed:- "In the Beginning" by Alan Bean
- Gene Cernan
- "Reaching for the Stars" by Alan Bean
- Gene Cernan
- Joseph Kerwin
- Vance Brand
I've also got a couple of other misc. pieces that I'm going to bring but those are the two I'll be focusing on. I look forward to hearing from all of you. ------------------ Aaron M. Lyon www.wings4flight.com |

I have a question I hope some of you can help me with. I will be attending the ASF show and in my free time, my hobby is painting. I am considering doing a series of small paintings on artist board to take to the show which I would like to have signed. These would strictly be for my own collection and will never be re-sold on ebay or anywhere else. Can anyone tell me if any of the astronauts are opposed to signing original paintings? I would hate to take them all the way there only to have them say they will not sign.In particular the astronauts I would be interested in is Gene Cernan, Charlie Duke, Ed Mitchell and Dave Scott. Any help is appreciated. |

I dabbled as an artist a few years back before I got married and had children. I had Alan Bean sign a pencil I drawing I did of him holding his soil sample, at the Hollywood show back in 2000.A few years later I had Dave Scott sign an oil painting I did of him on the Moon via Novaspace. In both cases I did not hear of, or experience, any problems from those two. ------------------ Kind Regards Douglas Henry Enjoy yourself and have fun.... it is only a hobby! http://home.earthlink.net/~aztecdoug/ |

Ed Hengeveld did a series of Apollo 14 paintings on the back of A14 cache launch, landing, and splashdown covers for me. The paintings are out of this world. I took them to KSC, and Edgar Mitchell was more than happy to sign them for me. He even took pictures of them, holding them. You should have no problem. They all seem to enjoy seeing this kind of original work. I showed one to Alan Bean who remarked very favorably on the realistic effect of Ed's work. |

EDIT: This was a pathetic post in which I tried to come up with a solution to the fact that the Radisson did not have rooms for Saturday and Sunday. But today I made what I thought would be the first of several futile weekly phone calls to see if a room had opened up, and it had. Never mind!Steve |

It seems all the prices are significantly higher than they were at the 2007 show and other recent signings. Does anyone know what percentage of these fees is actually going to the ASF? |

NASA today adjusted the launch dates for STS-125 and STS-126. Endeavour's STS-126 supply mission to the International Space Station has moved to Nov. 12. The mission's targeted launch time is 8:43 p.m. EST, Nov. 12. Landing will occur at approximately 2:45 p.m., Nov. 27. The formal launch dates for space shuttle flights are determined during the Flight Readiness Review, which is conducted about two weeks before launch. The review for STS-126 is scheduled for Oct. 30. |

It is a good thing we did not plan our holiday around the shuttle flight. I had hopes they would launch Nov 7. But we did not hold much hope when they changed dates so we booked a cruise out of Port Canaveral instead leaving Nov 9 after the show. |

I was hoping the last launch of the year would get moved up to November 6th. The day I turn 50, along with the 50th anniversary of the space age. It would have made it a great way to celebrate. But I guess it was not to be. |

What I did notice was that Fred Haise does not seem to be charging fees for inscriptions or crew completions, at least according to the chart. |

Would be interesting to know what the "none" by Dave Scott stands for.No extra charge for inscription? No extra charge for a crew completion? I do not think so. But would be nice. Regards, Stefan |

Scott didn't charge extra for completions at his last Novaspace signing, so it stands to reason he isn't charging more here either for completions. The only thing he charged a lot more for were the Moonwalkers prints ($400).At Spacefest and other recent in-signings, he has refrained from doing inscriptions...other than short personalizations. So the "none" there might mean no inscriptions. |

I don't know if this helps but at Autographica last year his 'default', if you like, was a signature and Apollo 15 Cdr (I presume pictures from other missions were given the appropriate inscriptions). That was all within the price. He was doing longer inscriptions for no extra charge (albeit not overly willingly) but I can remember the bloke in front of me pushing his luck with it and asking for long inscriptions on several items, the guy was told several times that he wasn't keen to do loads of inscriptions, but he kept insisting which clearly annoyed Scott. |

Could we schedule a time and place for collectSPACE members to meet and perhaps show some items in their collections to people who will appreciate them? I'm sure that members who already know each other will be running into each other at the events, but it would be great if there was a little cS convention for an hour or so- probably at the Radisson hotel.I was thinking Saturday the 8th at 5 p.m. That's between the end of the KSC Space and Air Show at 4 p.m. and the Tropical Evening with the Astronauts Reception at the Radisson at 7 p.m. Or maybe Sunday the 9th after the events are over at 3 p.m., since most people will probably still be there for another day. Please post any suggestions. If anyone knows the layout of the Radisson, perhaps he or she could suggest a place. Steve |

I have several brochures, plus some maps of the Radisson, which after a lady at the reception kindly invited hubby and myself to take a look around, and also I have photos as well. All the suites\rooms are built around the outside of the hotel - in the gardens, in blocks - 21 resort rooms - 72 suites, with a convention centre, meeting rooms, tennis courts, and the pool area. When you walk out of the main building - reception-lobby - there is a very large open area, by the pool - which has chairs, the tiki bar, otherwise the car park is spacious in the front of the building. Plenty of room. My suggestion would be by the pool so lovely, or the gardens, tropical plants etc. E-mail me I can send a map or brochure. Have not put my pics of the hotel on my computer yet. Will see you there - maybe Sunday would be better for everyone. from Brenda. |

I would lean towards meeting up at the KSC Visitors Center instead of the Radisson, since not everyone coming to the event will be staying at the Radisson...and the Radisson is a good distance from the Autograph Show and KSC in general. Perhaps an ideal time to meet would be Friday afternoon, as the autograph show winds down. I would suggest Sunday works as well, but a lot of people might depart once the air show and dinner concludes on Saturday (having already gotten their signatures on Friday). One idea is to meet in the rocket garden outside the Debus Center around 4pm on Friday. Most people should have their signatures collected by then...and that time still gives 90 minutes to meet before the center closes for the day. The rocket garden also gives an opportunity for a neat group photo. |
