Hi guys,Last weekend marked the first anniversary of three of the best days of my life. I still feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to meet so many astronauts and other celebrities in such a wonderful setting and with a shuttle launch thrown into the bargain as well, incredible! Speaking of setting, I was reading Walter Cunningham's The All-American Boys in which the Cocoa Beach Holiday Inn is mentioned a few times and I have seen references to it in other books as well. Is that the same Holiday Inn that we stayed in? Anyone familiar with that part of space history? Regards, Leo Bakker |

Wow! A year already!I have to admit, that was one of the most incredible weekends of my life. Linn LeBlanc sent me a photo of me standing bewteen Buzz Aldrin and Dick Gordon all looking up at the launch. It's just plain surreal in my mind. And, as my first in-person launch, after many failed attempts, I have to admit that it was SO spectacular - and TV does not do it justice at all. You just can't duplicate the colors and the feel. Not to mention the celebrity guests and old friends getting together. And the select few of us drinking at the Star Wars bar across the street from the hotel when they closed the hotel bar - and the local talent who thought we were a bunch of "rich, good looking foreigners". I think it was Craig who said "What makes you think we're foreigners?" Man, that was a great time.

Wow - a year has already past? Have to agree with everyone else's posts - certainly was one of the best weekends I've ever had. My first (and hopefully not last) launch, dinner with a moonwalker under a Saturn V, the opportunity to meet many of the astronauts you've grown up reading about and admiring, and the fun of meeting folks who are as into space exploration as I am. Outstanding. Rob |

Thanks Robert, for the link. Should have used the search function of course, sorry about that. Nice to know that indeed even the hotel was part of the very special setting.Regards, Leo Bakker |
