Greeting Fellow Collectors,I am a looong time "reader" and this is my first time post. Great place to spend a day off from work. What are some of the items you guys and gals gonna send for the upcoming John Young signing at Novaspace? I am torn between an A-16 crew completion or a WSS. What would you all do? Thomas |

Thomas-If I were you I would pick the A-16 crew completion item. I'm not sure what, if anything, I am getting signed yet. |

I am leaning that way also. Thanks for your input. Tmed |

Depends on your preferences, of course...but if you already have Duke and Mattingly on an item (and are happy with those signatures and are happy with the item in general), then I would say that adding Young to that piece is the logical choice. After all, Novaspace stocks signed WSS photos of Young...so if you later decide you want a signed WSS photo too, you can buy one from them. |

Thanks for your input. The A-16 crew is a NASA litho with Duke and Mattingly on it. The sigs are very nice and Duke actually signed his entire name. |

Ditto on the Apollo 16 completion item. I had Young sign both an Apollo 10 and an Apollo 16 completion item at the last event. When I started those crew lithos I never realistically dreamed that I would complete them. So when Kim offered the chance I didn't blink. You really don't see too many nice crew signed lithos from either crew. I went back quite a few years through the Aurora and Superior catalogs and they seem less common then other things like Irwin WSS lithos for example. This time I am going to have a WSS Litho signed. ------------------ Kind Regards Douglas Henry Enjoy yourself and have fun.... it is only a hobby! http://home.earthlink.net/~aztecdoug/ |

Along with getting the Apollo 16 signed by Young, I wouldn't mind starting an Apollo X Crew with Young as well...but wouldn't it be kinda difficult to get Tom Stafford? Duke would be quite easy and I could get John Young at the signing in Jan., but I don't want to start something that I cannot finish. Thanks for your input...Regards |

I would also go with the Apollo 16 crew. You may want to send the Apollo 10 photo as well- you wouldn't want Stafford to do a signing a year or two from now, then kick yourself for not having Young sign when you had the chance.Good luck! CDDFSPACE |

Pssst...you might wanna get Cernan to sign that A10 litho, not Duke. |

I meant Cernan not Duke for the A-10 crew! I will just have to hold my breath in hopes that Stafford will do a signing sometime. |

You might want to look around for an Apollo 10 crew photo already signed by Stafford -- my understanding is that he has declared himself "retired" from signing. I suppose he could change his mind, though ... ------------------ John Capobianco Camden DE |

I had an Apollo 10 litho signed by Capt.Young at his first signing. I bought the litho signed by Stafford on e-bay, then added Cernan from a Novaspace signing. For this signing I sent an Apollo 16 photo for completion by Young. I bought the photo signed by Mattingly from a dealer, then sent it to Charlie Duke through the mail. I have built most of my crew-signed lithos this way, the exceptions being ones like Apollo 14 where I bought one intact due to the deaths of Shepard and Roosa. |

John Young is here today. Items will begin shipping Thursday or Friday. We have hundreds of items, so it will take a few weeks to get everything out. Please be patient. This one was a huge undertaking for us.We will post the Q&A video in a couple weeks. I'm the editor, and still learning! Thanks to all who submitted items and questions. Did he give any indication of whether he might be signing again at some point in the future? ------------------ John Capobianco Camden DE |

Sorry to be so morbid, but at these guys' age, it's foolish to plan too far ahead. I remember thinking to myself when Pete Conrad was signing some things for us "I'll just get more later" a month later I was at his funeral in Arlington. Kim Poor [Edited by Novaspace (January 16, 2007).] |

I received my John Young signed WSS litho back in the mail today from Novaspace. What can I add to everything that has been said about the quality of work that Kim and his staff perform? It came back promptly and virtually shipped in a "black box" able to survive anything that the Post Office could dish out! Thanks Kim... now I guess I have painted myself into a corner collection wise... it leaves me needing an Irwin WSS to complete an all WSS Moonwalkers collection.. If only I had started collecting 20 years ago! Anyway, great work Kim and all. Thanks again... PS I posted it up on my website. Just look up any of John's missions to see it. ------------------ Kind Regards Douglas Henry Enjoy yourself and have fun.... it is only a hobby! http://home.earthlink.net/~aztecdoug/ [Edited by Aztecdoug (January 22, 2007).] |

Looks like a great addition to your collection...there can't be many uninscribed Young WSS lithos out there. A wise investment to make. (Nice website too!)By the way, I now see who beat me for the Eisele litho from the Aurora auction! Kim - Any update from Young on the status of his book? [Edited by mjanovec (January 23, 2007).] |

Thanks for the news! That's a good milestone to reach. At least the memories are recorded. While editing is no small feat, a major part of the battle is over in getting the book done.

Has John Young actually written the book himself (like Michael Collins ) or was it a ghost-writer? |

Wow, that makes a greatly-awaited book even better. (Although to hope for anybody to be a writer as talented as Collins is a long shot, at best.)------------------ Don |

John Young's writings are actually very witty and fun to read. Check out his letter to National Geographic (October 1981) in which he describes the flight of STS-1.Looking forward to this book ! |

I agree. If you've heard him speaking in public, you will know how witty and entertaining he can be. It's a dry humour which I think will look well in print. One worth waiting for. |

Great stuff! Some very candid answers from Capt. Young...glad to hear him answer a few of my questions. It was interesting to hear that Capt. Young basically agreed with Gen. McDivitt about why Apollo ended early. |

I just viewed the John Young Apolo 13 clip. I have to say, with all due respect to John Young, who is absolutely one of my favorite people, what he said was not accurate. Just to keep the Apollo 13 history accurate, John Young was nowhere near my EECOM console when the oxgen tank blew. Check the photos. Jack Lousma was the CapCom to my left and Vance Brand was sitting behind him. John and about ten other astronauts arrived later. However, I stand to be corrected. Respectfully, Sy
