Soon. We're finishing up the software. It won't be on astro-auction, but will be a two-round sealed bid. We want to wait until the live auction season is over. We'll poll for seating preferences first to determine who will be the most popular. Kim Poor www.spacefest.info |

I just saw that Capt Lovell has been confirmed at the UACC show. Any chance he will be doing two signings this year? I know NovaSpace has worked with him in the past. |

The Spacefest host hotel (Marriott) is sold out. We are looking into nearby overflow hotels, and will post them under the "venue" button on the website. We've also added some new speakers, including Rick Tumlinson. Pretty sure Lovell won't be coming. That would be THREE signings in six months. Kim Poor www.spacefest.info |

The Marriott has freed up an additional 30 rooms, due to a small conference cancelling.Nevertheless, the Mezona Inn is almost as nice, with a free breakfast, and id $20 cheaper, but is 3/4 mile away. You have a choice now. Kim Poor www.spacefest.info/Venue.html |

I am pleased to announce, in conjunction with several sponsors, the addition of premier test pilot and aviator Bob Smyth to the show. Bob was the chief test pilot at Grumman, and flew the first flights of the A2F (that became the A-6 Intruder), the F-14 and the Gulfstream II. Bob was also heavily involved with the LM with Grumman during the Apollo era. Bob is also famous for bailing out of the F-14 on its second flight: http://www.airspacemag.com/issues/2006/august-september/tomcat-tales.php And here is a bio: http://www.grummanpark.org/grumman_test_pilots.htm#Robert%20K.%20Smyth And we're not done yet! |

SPACEFEST needs VOLUNTEERS! Perks abound. Fill out the volunteer form or click the Volunteer button on the website. http://www.spacefest.info/Volunteer.html We'll need a number of assistants for the astronauts. The Marriott HOTEL is sold out (again.) There will be a few cancellations, but the Mezona overflow hotel is nice, inexpensive, and close by. http://www.spacefest.info/Venue.html The Spacefest AUCTION contains a plethora of goods from Donnis Willis of Lunar Legacies, (who's attending); several authentic Neil Armstrong autographs; flown items from Jim McDivitt, Gene Cernan and others; hand-painted covers and other art from Paul and Chris Calle, including personal Armstrong-signed items. Buttons, pins, passes, books, jewelry, manuals, autographs, models..something in every price range. We're working frantically on the catalog. http://www.spacefest.info/Auction.html If you watched the Discovery Science Channel's SPACE WEEK, you saw several of our SPEAKERS and art from artists in the ART SHOW. http://www.spacefest.info/Speakers.html http://www.spacefest.info/Art.html New guest: Richard Hatch, from the first and also the new Battlestar Galactica, making his first Arizona appearance. He will also be a speaker. http://www.spacefest.info/Astro.html Kim & Sally Poor

For those who haven't heard, the auctions for banquet table seats at the 7 most popular tables are already taking place, one table per week.We have already finished Alan Bean and John Young, and are halfway through Frank Borman. Coming up are Aldrin, Cernan, McDivitt, and Duke. This is a much more fair and inexpensive method than buying a premium priced ticket and still enduring a crapshoot for seating. We have too much going on already. We don't want another event to compete with what we already have: An autograph show, Art show, lots of dealers and exhibitors, a ground-breaking auction (there will be no controversy over authenticity) and a dinner, and many compellng speakers. We just don't have the time. Kim www.spacefest.info |

Colonel Ken Chilstrom has accepted our invitation to attend the Spacefest show (www.spacefest.info) . A brief bio is below. As you can see, KO is one if the pioneering aerospace GREATS - and was Chief of Fighter Test at Wright Pat, and helped select yeager for the Mach 1 flight. His contemprary, Bob Cardenas, who was head of Bomber Test (and dropped yeager), will be there also! And we JUST MAY have one more trick up our sleeve. What a fantastic group of aerospace and pioneering hero's!! Colonel Chilstrom is a combat veteran of WWII flying 80 missions in the North African campaign during 1943. Flying with the 27th Fighter Bomber Group, Colonel Chilstrom flew the A-36 on dive bomb and strafing missions and won the DFC and Eight Air Medals. After rotating back to the USA, Chilstrom was assigned to Wright Field, Dayton Ohio as a test pilot and graduated from the very first class/year (along with Dick Bong, Bob Cardenas, Danny Forbes, Tony Levier, Bob Rahn, and Glen Edwards). Chilstrom flew flight test evaluations of the captured ME-109, FW-190 & ME-262. On February 17, 1945 Colonel Chilstrom was the first US pilot to have a major accident in the Bell P-59 (America's first jet aircraft) when he lost power on take-off. In 1946, Chilstrom partcipated in the first jet air race at the National Air Races in Cleveland, OH.The winner of that race was Captain Gustav E. Lundquist. In September 1946, Chilstrom became Chief pilot of the Fighter Test Division at Wright Field and under his charge were some of the most famous test pilots in US history including, Pete Everest, Dick Johnson, Chuck Yeager and Bob Hoover. In 1948 Chilstrom flew the Phase II tests of the XP-86 program at Muroc AFB, CA (taking over from George Wheatties Welch). Chilstrom was promoted to the rank of Colonel in 1958 and that year was assigned as the Project Manager of the North American XF-108 Rapier at Wright Field. The XF-108 was to have been a Mach 3 long range interceptor but this program got sadly cancelled to save the sister XB-70 program due to a budget funding shortfall. Chilstrom is co author/editor of the fantastic book "Test Flying at Old Wright Field" and will be bringing some copies with him. He will sign it and you can add Cardenas who is also prominently featured in it as well! |

This is great news Al! I will definitely be getting one of Chilstrom's books! The inclusion of four very distinguished test pilots (Kittinger, Cardenas, Smyth, and Chilstrom) makes Spacefest THE ticket for space and aviation fans. For those who are primarily going just to see the astronauts, I highly suggest reading more about these test pilots before you go. You'll see that they risked just as much as most of the astros did (often at a greater frequency), even if they didn't reap as much glory in the public eye. I doubt any of them will ask very much for their signature. And they ALL will have great stories to tell. Everyone who is going owes it to themselves to meet these guys and spend at least a few minutes listening to what they have to say. They have a perspective on aviation history that is quickly being lost, as men from their generation are rapidly disappearing into the mists of time. My only fear is that three days won't be enough to take in everything at Spacefest. |

Received from Novaspace: quote: We've decided to postpone the Spacefest auction until the fall, probably late October. We have 575 superb auction lots here in the shop, a lot of time and money in the catalog, and eBay live auctions ready, but we we're hearing from customers that they would be distracted (and broke) with so much going on at Spacefest already. It WILL happen however, with the same personnel, but this will give us more time for some more consignments and preparation, and as a standalone event it will command more deserved attention. It will now be known as the Novaspace auction. We've uploaded some new auction highlights: http://www.spacefest.info/Auctionitems/Auctioncat.html Online absentee bidding on eBay will commence a few weeks before the auction.

We'll have the tickets at the Marriott hotel on Thursday and at a special pre-registered area on Fri-Sun. There will be a program book and nametags for pre-registrees (?) Conference posters and t-shirts will be for sale inside, and we'll have gift bags for banquet attendees. A splendid time is guaranteed for all! Kim www.spacefest.info |

Not at all happy with the auction postponment. The ASF and friends managed to conduct its auction plus add a few more last minute items into the mix without problems. |

I'm sure the ASF auction was very well run but it was only a couple of dozen items with no eBay Live component. As I understand it the SpaceFest/Novaspace auction will have hundreds of items and will be run in parallel with eBay LiveAuctions. It's more along the lines of a Regency/Swann/Aurora space auction. An auction on that scale needs a half or full day dedicated to it and I can certainly understand that it doesn't fit into the schedule of an autograph show. |

Yeah trust us, this was not a decision made lightly. The work organizing an auction of this scale is tremendous. Catalogs, alone, have been time intensive. Not to mention the response from astronauts & cosmonauts wanting to consign, has been tremendous. We get new contacts daily. So to better serve with the auction, it was necessary. Plus also, we were going to devote at least a full day to the live auction. This would have necessitated doing it during the signing times. If you wanted a particular item, or wanted to view the auction, you may miss out on an astronaut. It's a tighrope sometimes, but Spacefest will still offer many unique things never before seen. |

Al and Kim, Something that's been mentioned before in the context of other space auctions - for the sake of us European buyers, do please try to start the NovaSpace auction as early as possible - e.g. 9am PST.It's possible for most of us (even those with young families) to stay up a bit late, but when the time comes for you to take your lunch break and it's 2am over here there won't be that many people still awake for the end of the auction... |

Since we have postponed the Spacefest-Novaspace auction until October, we had a hole in our schedule for Friday, Aug. 17th.Due to popular demand, (from Susy Young and many others) we have negotiated with director/exec. producer Jeffrey Roth for three showings of the award-winning film "The Wonder of it All" in the intimate 100-seat conference theater. The critically acclaimed and wildly popular film benefits from Spacefest attendance by most of the Moonwalkers interviewed for the film; some of whom will be available for a Q&A following the film. Advance tickets are highly recommended at $10, as we expect all showings to be sold out in advance. Tickets are available at the film's website: http://www.thewonderofitallfilm.com The film will be shown Friday only. Movie posters and.....their all new cool Alan Bean Artist - Astronaut DVD will be for sale in the dealer's area... Kim Poor www.spacefest.info

The auction postponment and the subsequent scheduling of the "Wonder" film are both major "pluses" as far as I'm concerned. I know that if the auction was held on Spacefest Friday, I would have to choose between spending my time/money with the astros in attendance or spend it at the auction. I couldn't do both. This way, I can save up for an auction a couple months later and place my bids from my home computer in the comfort of my PJs. And adding the film to Friday's Spacefest makes a great event even greater. The film will have so much more impact when one is in the presence of these astros and can talk to them afterwards. |

It's great that the opportunity became available to arrange 3 showings of the documentary "The Wonder Of It All". I was impressed with this refreshing and sincere work by Jeff Roth & his Team when it premiered at the Newport Beach Film Festival. It provides some insight or a glance on the personalities of 7 of the 12 Moonwalkers. The discussion that followed was fascinating as well. Look forward to seeing it again at SpaceFest! Jeff Roth called in somewhat of a panic this afternoon and said he had sold 50 tickets in about two hours. Two more came in while we were talking! We're going to try to squeeze one or two more showings Friday night. We have the conference theater until midnight. He's also getting a state-of-the-art sound system, so look out for the Saturn V launch! Jeff will be doing a showing in Seattle Saturday, so he can't be at Spacefest all weekend. Kim Poor www.spacefest.info |

I just want to put in a plug for David Levy. Many people are familier with his astronomy books but he has also written two biographies that I want people to know about. One is "Shoemaker by Levy". It is the biography of Gene Shoemaker. The other is "Clyde Tombaugh Discoverer of Pluto". I have copies of both books but I have only read Shoemaker by Levy. I thought it was a great book. Both of my copies of these books have been signed by David Levy and the Tombaugh book has even been signed by Clyde. David is a very nice and elegant speaker. I have meet him twice and you can see how Miranda feels about him. This is her running to greet David and here she has caught up to him. David is great. Take him your copies of his books and get them signed. Mike Myer Humboldt KS |
