In the mail this morning was a long-awaited signed menu from the dinner with Buzz Aldrin at Autographica 2005. There was a covering letter that has the following teaser:We have now confirmed the date for 2007 and I have provisionally had confirmation from an Apollo astronaut that we have never been able to get before (subject to us only agreeing terms). IF it comes off, then it will be his first ever signing appearance anywhere! [Edited by collectSPACE Admin (February 07, 2007).] |

I had an e-mail from him a couple of days ago saying that they should be able to announce the special guest in the next couple of weeks. They already have two confirmed astronauts (not identified) plus a fourth who, like the mystery guest, is also not yet confirmed (although perhaps now the mystery guest is confirmed?) He also clarified the statement about first signing appearance - this will be his first signing at a public event, which rules in anyone who has done a private Novaspace signing and rules out Gene Cernan. |

Morning Folks,So Jim Lovell is attending, but you say for a special event for Diamond pass holders, does this mean that gold and normal pass holders are excluded or am i getting the wrong end of the stick ? I myself would love to meet Jim Lovell,it would be a huge thrill to meet one of only a few men who have made it to the Moon twice. Cheers, Alex. ------------------ "Why dont you fix your little problem and light this Candle?" |

He will be signing like the other guests, but there will also be a special event on the Friday evening for Diamond Pass holders only. They also hope that he will do an open Q&A session. There will be an announcement on the web site on Monday, apparently. There are 50 diamond passes and at least 20 have already gone (one of them to me :-) )[Edited by collectSPACE Admin (February 07, 2007).] |

Hi Charles, I'm sure we won't know until the show itself starts though usually there is a pre-order section on MSPGS autographs http://www.mspgs.com/ that gives a reasonable indication of the cost involved. Regards, Derek |

Hello Everyone Have we got you excited yet !!! Well it,s been a long time coming but we have finally managed to get the guest you keep asking about. Yes it was very hard and yes it did take a long time but he will be worth it no question. Jim Lovell will attend Autographica on March 2nd-4th and he will be signing for everyone. Buy a diamond pass for an unforgettable Friday night with Jim Lovell this will be an exclusive only for those with this pass. Jim Lovell is an extraordinary guest and you should not miss this opportunity to meet him. Phones will be busy over the next few days as news of this leaks out but keep trying as we will stay open a little longer each night to cope with demand. Book quick if you want a diamond pass or you will miss out on one of the best nights of your life. Dave Phillips |

I'm hoping the fact that Lovell will be a success (I'm sure of that) will encourage some of the other less reluctant Apollo astronauts to venture this side of the pond in the future.Look forward to seeing everybody a bit more this time rather than having to rush off. Adam |

Good Morning I have been asked by Dave to bring 2 new cosmonauts to Autograhica in March. I am in negotiations already so you will be able to meet more flyers as well as Lovell. I know Apollo was a golden program but meetin Russians some of whom might have spent time on space station for long duration issions does excite many. When I know who I will pass the details to Dave and Garry to make public. I am sure you will not be disappointed. Rex |

McCandless is confirmed, as is Worden, and 2 cosmonauts at present, more to be announced. For those of you who have not booked your Diamond pass, there are only 12 left. For those of you who don't spend all day watching a screen, i have a phone and email. See you in March. [Edited by collectSPACE Admin (February 07, 2007).] |

Go to http://showmastersonline.com/forums/ and select the Autographica 2007 forum. It's mainly noise, but for the last event the guests were often announced here before they appeared on the web site. [Edited by collectSPACE Admin (February 07, 2007).] |

Interesting to see that Anatoli Artsebarsky is one of them - who commanded the Mir mission of the first Briton in space, Helen Sharman. I interviewed him about that mission some years ago and he has some great stories. So a very suitable guest for a British autograph show. |

For those of us who are ISS fans, Salizhan Sharipov is an excellent substitute. He had a wonderful time on Expedition 10 with two very successful space walks. Thanks a million Rex (and Garry). |

For the uninitiated here's Winkle's amazing list of achievements: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_%22Winkle%22_Brown He still holds the record for flying more types of aircraft than anyone in history (487!) and was the first to land a jet on a carrier. Excellent! Paul |

Eric Brown's a star guy. His book 'Wings of the Luftwaffe' is a fantastic read which deals with his experiences flying captured axis aircraft at the end of the WWII. If not for bureaucratic intervention he may have well been the first pilot to break the sound barrier.Ken [Edited by Mekon (January 19, 2007).] |

Captain Brown's autobiography "Wings on my sleeve" was also published last year. It has many fascinating photos, including the first deck landings, on an aircraft carrier, of a Mosquito and a pure jet aircraft, the Vampire. |

Actually, "Wings on my Sleeve" was first published about thirty years ago; this must be an updated version. Quite coincidentally, our ABC network last night screened a recent BBC documentary called "Breaking the Sound Barrier," which was about British attempts to be the first to exceed the speed of sound. Eric Brown was interviewed quite extensively in the show, which made the point that a sudden and unexplained government funding cut killed off the British program, which was quite close to realisation, with Brown as the pilot who would have been the first to exceed Mach 1. He's a nice guy; we corresponded a little after his book first came out and he wrote me a couple of nice letters about his experiences. It would be a pleasure to actually meet the guy at this show, but sadly there's a small question of geography and cost involved. |

I have met Eric Brown, at at talk he gave in Farnborough a year or so ago. He is a fascinating man, and a gentleman, his stories are well told and unassuming.I would say that he may just be the most interesting, if relatively unknown guest at the show... |

I've just read the sleeve notes on the Eric Brown book. Colin is quite correct that it was first published about 30 years ago (1961 in fact). Apparently it was originally written to boost recruitment for the Fleet Air Arm! This new version is no longer restrained by the then "security concerns" and is an expanded, revised and illustrated version (and a good read!) |
