Hi Kevin,

A small number (10) of what we called "Gold Packages" were offered early on that included some value added goodies beyond hotel, banquet, and show admission. They sold out very quickly and so are no longer available.

Steve-

I think it would be great to have a list of the phots you plan to have for sale. It is certainly a task trying to find high quality images and get them print before the show.

For anybody that is debating which airport to fly into. I was told by the Hilton Employee that took my reservation that there is a shuttle from LAX to the Burbank Hilton for $23 per person. I have not confirm the name of the shuttle company or the times the shuttle runs.

The Shuttle you refer to is called the Super Shuttle and runs continously throughout the day and night, every few minutes. It's the cheapest and most convenient way to get from LAX to the Burbank Hilton. Upon arrival there are signs in baggage claim that direct one to where the Super Shuttle can be hailed. A very easy process. This is MUCH cheaper than taking a taxi although it may make a few stops to drop off other passengers along the way to Burbank.

While I'm certainly not as well versed as a travel agent, I do reside in a beach community not far from Burbank and would be happy to help anyone by answering questions, providing recommendations, or generally assisting in any other way you can think of in order to make your visit more enjoyable.

Steve,

This is going to be an absolutely awesome show that I'm dying to attend, but unfortunately I won't be able to due to military commitments (I'm active duty USAF).

I'm wondering if you will be allowing people to mail in items for autographing, or for people to purchase autographs by mail.

Hello Steve,

Unfortunately, circumstances surrounding this show will not allow us to take absentee orders. Might suggest, asking another collectSPACE member to help you out, given your not being able to attend.

James,

I recommend taking this tour http://www.alllosangelestours.com/Body.asp?Page=TourDetails&tour=LAX-B0010

It gives you a half-day tour of LA (with numerous stops) plus 6 hours or so in Universal Studios. The tour buses are only 16 seats or so which makes the tour seem more intimate and the time you get in Universal (all rides included) is a welcome bonus.

cheers, derek

Paul, I'm quite certain that "at the end of the day" (as you Brits sometimes say , you'll remember this event as being one of the best experiences you've ever had. Beyond that, I'm looking forward to personally meeting you as well as the rest of the UK contingent.

I've helped many of you build your collections over the years though Farthest Reaches, and so meeting you in the flesh will be especially gratifying for me.

Oh, a travel tip for those of you flying into LAX who need ground transportation to the Burbank Hilton. Here is the website for Super Shuttle. They're much less expensive than a cab, easy to arrange, and very reliable. It's www.supershuttle.com

Let me start by saying I'm still in shock...

I'd definitely encourage a preview of what photos will be available at the show. I'm still looking for a good 8 x 10 shot of Carpenter in his Mercury suit without his helmet and an 11 x 14 of the full moon.

The Tonight Show with Jay Leno is about 10 minutes away from the Burbank Hilton.

You can request up to 4 free tickets through the mail-

http://www.nbc.com/nbc/The_Tonight_Show_with_Jay_Leno/tickets.shtml

It's free and close by.

I just confirmed my flight from Hawaii to Burbank thanks to Steves recommendation of http://www.sidestep.com/?redir=B

I would encourage anyone who is thinking of attending this event, but is short funds, to check out these low air fares prices.

They seem to change daily.

After months of searching, I finally scored an extemely low price.

This event is going to be hard to top.

I'd like to start a new thread "Who's going to the Burbank Show"

http://collectspace.com/ubb/Forum3/HTML/002052.html

It would be great to meet some of the cS members in person.

See ya there.

I would want to visit the Richard M. Nixon Library in Yorba Linda, CA and the Ronald Reagan Lirary in Simi Valley, CA. Both libraries are about an hour drive from Los Angeles. Because of the recent death of President Reagan, I would expext that his library would be very crowded, but I would still go if I did not live in the Los Angeles area. Also the ocean liner Queen Mary is in Long Beach, CA.

Tourist stuff

If you visit the gift shop of NBC the morning of the taping of the tonight show they usually have extra tickets. If you want a great seat however you must line up outside the studio several hours before the taping. The first 50 or so in line are given the stage seating. You see Leno high fiveing this section in the opening segment. Another note: don't take cameras or they will take them.

Also if you go to tvtickets.com you can get tickets to sitcoms like Everybody loves Raymond on the 3rd and so on.

http://www.seeing-stars.com/index.shtml
And above is the best website for tourist information on LA and surrounding areas(you can even learn where famous people have died and where they are buried).

One last point on traveling to LA. We got our flights for 140.00 round trip direct to Las Vegas from Ohio and we are driving the 3 hours to Burbank -(in rush hour that is how long it will take to get from LAX to Burbank) and we get to see the countryside. Our rental car was 50.00 for the whole week.(try getting a deal like that in LA) The only problem is that we have to avoid the casinos so that we have money for the autographs.

Just to add something to Rizz's reply to James' question about what else to do...
Even if you get tickets to The Tonight Show through the mail, you will still have to get to NBC studios early. Sometimes very early, depending who will be appearing on the show that evening. I heard people were camping out for two days there when Paul McCartney appeared!
NBC does not want empty seats in the audience so they always give out more tickets than they have seats. Just because you have a ticket doesn't mean you will get in! If memory serves the studio holds 300 people and if you want to get up near the front where Leno shakes hands you'll need to get there by at least 11 AM and maybe earlier! He "guarantees" that the first 16 people in line will get to sit up front.
I was there two and half years ago and did just that. # 13! Yes, it was a lonnnnng wait as they did not let people in for the taping until 4 PM. The NBC pages were good about coming out and keeping morale high and made sure no one was jumping in line or holding spots for other people. But, finally, the show started at 5 and there I was on the second row directly in front of Leno as he gave his monologue maybe 10 feet away!
And a bit of trivia... Leno's studio is not the one that Carson used for his 29 years as The Tonight Show host. Leno thought it was too deep and wide and wanted something more intimate. The smaller studio he chose to use, and still does, was the one used to tape 'Welcome Back Kotter'!
Have fun! Rob

For those of you Leno fans, he appears on most Sunday evenings at a small comedy and magic club in Hermosa Beach (40 minutes) from Burbank. He uses the very small venue to work on new material and if reserved in advance, tickets are usually available. There is a charge unlike the attending the Tonight Show but you can sit within a few feet from Jay as he does his act. My understanding is that he does approx. 40 minutes of stand-up. Other will known comics are on the lineup as well. Here is the link:
http://www.comedyandmagicclub.info/

Also for you space fans (which I assume represents all of you , the California Science Center which is quite nearby the show's location, houses not only the Gemini 11 Capsule (Gordon/Conrad) but the Capsule that carried the infamous Ham into space for his historic flight. Here is the link for anyone interested:
http://www.casciencectr.org/Exhibits/AirAndSpace/HumansInSpace/MercuryReds tone2/MercuryRedstone2.php

The list of things to do in the Los Angeles area are simply endless which is one of the reasons we chose this location...

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. I'll need to sit down and decide what to visit, as I couldn't possibly get to everything in just one day. Too bad Yosemite is so far away.

Does anyone have any information about the best/ most economical way to get to Disneyland from the Burbank Hilton?

Also, from the hotel to Venice Beach? Thanks.

John,

I think the lack of replies says it all. You should contact the Hotel and see if they offer anything specific, but while Southern California has many wonderful things, a strategic public transportation system is not one of them. While I am sure if you get enough bus schedules you could put together a route that will get you to where you're going, it might take a day and a half to get there and return.

Mind you, LA is a large area and the places you mention are pretty well spread out. If you want to get out and see the region you really need a car, and some patience. Oh, and the price of gas... well, it is still a lot lower than EMEA!
