It is rare to have a one of a kind item in space collecting especially one that hold a world record, BUT Lot 264 is one of these items! On June 25, 1966, Bob Giffen was chosen to do a crucial repair of the Apollo 4 launch vehicle as the massive Saturn V sat on the launch pad. Problem was the port that needed repair was 257 feet in the air with no way to access it.
Bob was suspended on a rope from one of the access arms and had to swing out to do the repair not only saving the mission months of repair time if the mighty Saturn V needed to be returned to the VAB but also earning a world record in the process.
As Bob recounted as he was doing the repair another space worker took his hard hat and sketched a picture of him hanging from the side of the massive rocket.
This lot has not only his hard had from that day but also his world record certificate, his thank you letter hand signed by Buzz Hello, his prized "I worked on Apollo 4" decal and two pictures of him doing the repair.
This is a very historic offering and comes directly from the Giffen Family.
