From Lunar Legacies: The uploading of the Lunar Legacies 20 auction to Invaluable, Auction Zip and eBay has been completed, and it is ready for viewing and pre-bidding for the live auction on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 9 a.m. Pacific Time. You must register at Invaluable to bid, but most of you have been automatically registered. Just go to invaluable.com and hit the "Auctioneer Directory" link at the top and find Lunar Legacies, or click here. There are many descriptions left to write (and a few photos to take) due to the fact that there were about 200 last-minute lots that arrived, but all should be completed by this coming weekend. The bidding numbers are correct and you may pre-bid now if you so choose once you are registered. Mail-in bids are accepted, so if you cannot be there live for the auction, please email with your list. Please also understand that all mail bids must be confirmed received. Highlights in this auction include: - Stainless steel Gemini-Titan presentation model
- Apollo 11 Flight Plan
- STS-107 crew-signed photo and cover
- Gemini 3 flown heat shield in lucite
- Gemini 4 crew-signed glossy photo
- Various Apollo Lunar Module Simulator training manuals
- Apollo Operations Handbooks
- Rare Apollo 1 crew patch
- Cunningham's flown Apollo 7 beta cloth patch
- Worden's flown Apollo 15 US flag
- STS-41G flown Challenger tile
- Gagarin handwritten and signed letter
...and much more - 707 lots total (and probably a few more). |

Some great stuff, as always. Anyone see anything they like? I've got a couple of bids in. |

Interesting no comments on this auction. One thing I noticed was cosmonaut items were down. Does this reflect a lack of interest in the Russian space program items? |

I'm not up on the Soviet items, so I can't really comment on those. My collecting has always focused on the 8x10" signed astronaut photos. I added 10 more to my collection, half of which are shuttle crew photos.A few items I was interested in got away from me. (I couldn't be in front of my computer the entire 8 hours.) I don't mind too much. I made up for it by putting in bids on a few items that seemed to me to be bargains. Lot 239, the McDivitt signed Apollo 9 CSM photo was one of them. I also threw out a bid on 262, which shows Aldrin working on the seismometer. The reason I bid on that one was because I already have two others of Aldrin working in the same area. I thought it might be good to get a three photo sequence. Even though I won it, I wouldn't have minded getting outbid on that one. While I'm happy with my winnings, if I had to do it all over again, I probably would have thrown all my money into Lot 410, the Apollo 17 lunar surface flown flag. While I love the flag, etc., the provenance seemed rather iffy to me. Not that I don't believe it flew to the surface on Apollo 17, but there really isn't anything tying that particular flag to one that flew. Sure there's a letter, etc., but I couldn't see where Cernan wrote on the flag labeling it as a flown flag. That's the only reason I didn't bid on that one. With regard to tendencies, I also saw a lot of flown heat shield fragments. I'll probably regret not bidding on a few of those. It would have made a nice start to collecting one fragment from all the pre-shuttle missions. Congrats to all who got what they wanted. I can't wait for the next Lunar Legacies auction. |

The Cernan/Apollo 17-"copied LOA" for similar American flags has always been an issue with me as they have popped up for many, many years now. Did you also note that the actual U.S. flag with this and other similar lots from many other different auction firms do not match up with the same type of flag that actually accompanied its photo-copy? |

I did not notice that, Ken. If I remember correctly, the flag for sale seemed to have a embroidered border around it, which struck me as odd. It didn't look like a typical flown flag to me. I thought maybe that was their way of distinguishing surface flags from CSM flown flags. |

Did not bid but watched with interest. I believe there were many bargains particularly the flown shuttle items and autographed crew photos. The Bob Springer flights suits were a great value too. |
