Astronaut Scholarship Foundation release quote: Astronauts Announce Semi-Annual Auction of Artifacts and Memorabilia!The Astronaut Scholarship Foundation's (ASF) Semi-Annual Silent Auction Preview and Registration opens today. Register for your chance to win items that went to the Moon; were signed by Apollo crews and more! Online bidding opens Thursday, October 4, 2007 and will coincide with live bidding on Friday, October 12 at the Autographica show in Heathrow, England. Auction items have been donated by the astronauts and members of the Foundation and all proceeds go directly to fund scholarships for exceptional science and engineering college students. Your bids are appreciated and will go a long way in helping in this cause. Bidding will conclude at the Autographica dinner on the evening of Saturday, October 13, 2007. Autographica boasts it's "the world largest autograph show."

Astronaut Scholarship Foundation release quote: Astronauts Open Semi-Annual Auction of their Artifacts and MemorabiliaOpening today, space fans can bid online for astronaut artifacts and personal memorabilia from some of their beloved astronauts as the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation (ASF) debuts its Semi-Annual Auction of Astronaut Artifacts and Memorabilia. Legendary astronauts have joined together to auction off their space mementoes as a way to raise funds to provide scholarships for exceptional college students pursuing degrees in Science and Engineering. Highlights of the auction include: A mission patch FLOWN to the moon aboard Apollo 14 and autographed by astronaut Edgar Mitchell; a painted canvas depicting the Earth and moon signed by 27 legendary astronauts such as Buzz Aldrin and Wally Schirra; Apollo 13 insurance cover signed by the original prime crew: Fred Haise, Jim Lovell and Ken Mattingly (Mattingly was replaced three days before the mission for medical concerns) and a piece of the Apollo 11 thermal protection subsystem which covered the capsule on its flight to the moon. Online bidding opens today, October 4, 2007 at 9 a.m. EDT and will coincide with live bidding on Saturday, October 13, 2007 at the Autographica show in Heathrow, England where several astronauts will be signing for the public. Online and in-person bidding will conclude at the Autographica dinner on the evening of October 13 at 5:00 p.m. EDT. Now in its fourth year, all proceeds from the auction benefit the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation, a non-profit organization which provides scholarships to college students who exhibit motivation, imagination, and exceptional performance in the science or engineering field of their major. The Foundation funds nineteen $10,000 scholarships annually and has awarded $2.5 million to 226 students nationwide.
