This interview with William Shatner, taped before he was announced as a crew member on NS-18, reveals that he was initially being considered for the seat filled by Mark Bezos on Blue Origin's first human flight:
Well, the truth of the matter is I had negotiations going on to go up in Blue Origin. I was going to go up on the first vehicle and I'm going to float in space.
I went and saw the vehicle and here is where you sit and you'll float... and I'm thinking maybe I can bring some artistic meaning to what I am seeing and the feeling. And then he chose his brother to go up in space with him.

Tom Hanks says Jeff Bezos asked him to go to space before William Shatner but wanted $28 million.
...it costs like 28 million bucks or something like that. I'm doing good Jimmy, I'm doing good. But, I ain't paying 28 million bucks.
